Introduction

Jasmine Cottage is a semi-detached 19th century cottage which has recently been modernised. It offers compact self-catering accommodation on two floors close to the centre of Godshill village.

Travel and Arrival

  • All guests are provided with written directions to the cottage and parking advice by Island Cottage Holidays.
  • There is a single allocated parking space situated 60 metres/ yards from the cottage. The walk to the cottage from here is flat on gravel and pavement. There are double yellow lines directly outside the cottage.
  • There is a bus stop is 300 metres/yards from the cottage (flat pavement walk). This serves Shanklin (15 minutes), Ventnor (20 minutes) and other coastal resort towns. From the opposite side of the road, buses go to the county town of Newport (15-20 minutes). Buses run at least half-hourly throughout the day and evening - http://www.islandbuses.info/timetables/search?q=Godshill#
  • Godshill has a village shop and post office within 50 metres/ yards of the cottage as well as a variety of gift shops, tearooms, two pubs and a restaurant all within maximum 300 metres/yards of the cottage.

Entrance

  • There is a 79cm/31” wide gate to the cottage directly behind the pavement. The gate is 4 metres/yards from the porch door along a level brick path.
  • A lamp above the porch will light automatically after dark.
  • There is a key safe on the right side of the porch, reached through a 76cm/2ft 6” wide opening from the path onto gravel. The safe is situated 1.35m/4ft 5” above ground.
  • The doorway into the cottage is 63cm/25” wide and the threshold is 8cm/3” high. One stride on there is a slightly wider inner door and a 5cm/2” high lip. Light switches are situated through the inner door on the left-hand wall.

Cottage Interior

The living/dining room and kitchenette are on the ground floor; a bedroom, dressing room (suitable for one child or baby to sleep) and shower room/toilet are upstairs, accessed from the landing.

Due to the age and modest proportions of the cottage, there are some restricted spaces. This mainly applies to width of openings. Door heights are all at least 1.98m/6ft 6” high (except door to under stair cupboard) and ceiling heights are approx 2.08m/6ft 10” except going into the eaves and on part of the stairway as stated below.

Living/dining room

  • Carpeted.
  • Two seater sofa and comfy chair both with seats 46cm/18” high. Dining chairs with seats 48cm/19” high. Dining table 74cm/29” high and coffee table 42cm/16½” high.
  • Window has opening handle 1.35m/4ft 5” above floor, reached across 41cm/16” deep sill.

Kitchen

  • Through archway from living room. Linoleum floor.
  • Floor space excluding units is 1.2 x 1.1m (4ft x 3ft 6”).
  • Worktop and sink height is 92cm (3ft). Wall cupboard shelf heights range from 1.27m to 1.73m (4ft 2”- 5ft 8”) above floor.
  • Window has opening handle 1.35m/4ft 5” above floor, reached across sink and sill combined depth of 96cm/38”.

Under stair cupboard

Head height reduces to 1.75m/5ft 9” in front of freezer and microwave. Head height reduces further in steps within cupboard area to minimum 76cm/2ft 6”.

Stairs

Twelve steps with 18cm/7¼” risers. Handrail except at corner midway up. Low head clearance on bottom two steps (minimum 1.7m/5ft 7”).

Bedroom

  • Doorway 66cm/26” wide. Carpeted.
  • Double bed with restricted space on far side (37cm/14½” wide floor space and minimum 1.37m/4ft 6” head height in eaves). On near side of bed there is 63-81cm/25-32” floor space to door/wall. From bottom of bed there is 71cm/28” distance to drawer units.
  • Top of mattress 56cm/22” from floor. Narrow shelf with reading lamps behind bed head.
  • Two drawer units with seven drawers each, 1.24m/4ft 1” high.
  • Two windows with opening handles 1.12m/3ft 8” and 63cm/2ft 1” above floor, reached across 23cm/9” and 38cm/15” deep sills.

Dressing room/bedroom 2

  • Doorway 63cm/25” wide. Carpeted.
  • Head height minimum 1.3m/4ft 3” into eaves on far side of room.
  • Built in wardrobe with hanging space at 1.55m/5ft 1” and 1.22m/4ft above floor and shelves over.

Shower room

  • Doorway 56cm/22” wide. Laminate flooring.
  • Shower unit, toilet and hand basin.
  • Head height minimum 1.5m/5ft in eaves by hand basin.
  • Sliding shower doors with opening width of 42cm/16½” and lip 11cm/4½” high. Non-slip shower mat provided.
  • Toilet 43cm/17” high. Space around toilet is 15cm/6” to wall, 41cm/16” in front and 61cm/24” to basin.
  • Hand basin is 86cm/34” high.

Garden

  • Small front garden with path from gate to cottage door as described under ‘Entrance’.
  • Separate main garden area is accessed via path from road (passing gate to front garden) and through two gates. Distance from road to entrance to main garden is 15 metres/yards on stepping stones over gravel/grass.
  • Garden is 30 metres/yards long and 6 metres/yards wide. Path to bottom of garden is narrow and slightly winding. No slopes. Paths may be slippery when wet.
  • Seating in arbour 15 metres/yards from garden gate, at picnic bench near bottom of garden and in summer house at bottom of garden, where directors chairs are provided inside. One 22cm/8½” step up to summer house verandah.

Lovely farm cottage with delightful rural views across lakes to the downs beyond. The picturesque farm is in a wonderful cycling and walking area with direct access to a network of cycle paths, footpaths and bridleways, and private access to the Stenbury Trail which ultimately extends from Cowes to the coast at Ventnor. The Tennyson Trail extending to the western tip of the island is also easily reached. The cottage has been furnished and equipped with care to a high standard and offers charming accommodation in beautiful surroundings with ducks, swans and a huge variety of other wildlife including red squirrels as constant visitors. Horses are kept on the farm and trout fishing can be arranged. The central location of the cottage makes it an ideal base for touring the island.

This lovely wing of Fowlsdown Farmhouse is completely self contained and offers very attractive accommodation of a high standard. The accommodation is largely open plan with an attractive sitting room area with a sofa, arm chair, flat screen television with freeview; a lovely dining area beside a window; a fitted kitchen with a tiled floor, an electric cooker and hob, microwave, refrigerator and small freezer (24 hour washing service available); a charming bedroom with a king size bed and fitted wardrobe with curtains to separate it from the living area; a well equipped tiled bathroom with a bath, over head shower, basin and WC. At the rear of the cottage is a small sunny fenced courtyard with garden furniture so that meals can be enjoyed outside. The property is within a 5 minute drive of the coastal resort of Shanklin with its lovely sandy beach. The picturesque village of Godshill is also nearby - with its thatched cottages, lovely church, tea shops, public houses and restaurant. This is also a wonderful walking and cycling area. Ferries can be booked for you at greatly discounted prices.

This idyllic, one bedroom, self catering wing located in an area of 'Outstanding Natural Beauty' near Godshill Village on the East of the Isle of Wight. The wing is part of the beautiful Godshill Park House which stands in four acres of grounds and surrounded by farmland. There are wonderful walking a cycling opportunities around the cottage and it is a pleasant walk to Godshill where there are pubs and restaurants.

Lovely detached bungalow, in a quiet lane, on the outskirts of the pretty village of Brighstone, on the south west side of the Isle of Wight. Wonderful walking and cycling area with bridleways and footpaths at the end of the lane leading up on to Brighstone Downs. From here the Tennyson Trail can be followed to The Needles on the western tip of the Island or inland to Carisbrooke with its medieval castle. The cottage is only 1/2 mile from the village centre with public house for meals, bistro/tea shop, excellent village shop with local produce. The quiet beaches of Brighstone Bay are also nearby.

Local Walk From Godshill

Walk or Cycle to Shanklin - This walk first follows the Stenbury Trail to Wroxall and then the cycle track to Shanklin. To reach the Stenbury Trail from Godshill head out of town along the main road towards Shanklin before turning right after 200 yards onto the trail. Continue up the trail to the Freemantle Gate (photo of the Freemantle Gate) which you pass thought and follow the path which bears left across the fields towards Appuldurcombe and Wroxall. There is a wide flat cycle way that runs from Wroxall to Shanklin. The track starts below the old railway bridge in the centre of Wroxall. If you are walking there is a footpath leading from alongside the bridge to the start of the track but if you are on a bike you must cross the bridge and follow the cycle path signs. Once you are on the track it is clearly signposted all the way to Shanklin. The track runs along the old railway line and the banks on either side are lined with lush vegetation.
