A great base for exploring the western reaches of the Isle of Wight, this cosy single-level getaway is ideal for a couple looking for a peaceful spot in idyllic surroundings. Set in the centre of a picturesque village, this cosy cottage has a charming view of the thatched church and makes a lovely base for long rural and coastal walks. It is also close to many of the island's popular attractions, including the Needles and Tennyson Down.

On entering this end-of-terrace property from the sloping driveway, you will find the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. Decorated in cool neutral tones, this is a lovely living space, with a lounge perfect for spending an evening snuggled on the sofa with a good book or a movie. There's a pretty dining area, and the kitchen has a range of equipment so you can prepare your favourite meals. The double bedroom is a step down from the lounge, and is a light and fresh space which opens onto the decked area outside. There is a step up from the bedroom into the modern en-suite shower room with shower cubicle and WC. The enclosed courtyard features the decked area, sun terrace and garden furniture, and is ideal for relaxing with a drink and taking in the beautiful views.

Famous for its links to the 19th-century poet Tennyson, the pretty village of Freshwater is a fantastic base for exploring this part of the island. The village has a fine selection of places to eat and drink, as well as attractions such as the Dimbola Museum and the Freshwater Bay Golf Club. Other local places to visit include Tapnell Farm Park (2.5 miles), and Mottistone Gardens and Estate (4.5 miles). Walkers can explore Headon Warren (3 miles), Tennyson Down (2 miles) and the Needles (3.5 miles). A little further afield are the popular seaport of Cowes (15 miles) and Queen Victoria's Osborne House (17 miles).

The property is first class and we have used The Wendy House the last 4 years. We are pensioners and so have to be careful and budget for everything. The ferry, eating out and now the cost of parking everywhere has made the holiday impossible.

This is a lovely place to stay for a few days. Located across the (quiet) road from a beautiful church and overlooking fields. Plenty of walks to do from the doorstep with your dog and a couple of places to eat nearby without having to drive anywhere. Well equipped and comfortable. Owners very happy to help with any queries.

Great location, just 5 mins walk to freshwater bay. Great for 2 people but although it is dog friendly it can feel cramped if you have medium to large dogs. Cosy and has all you need for a short stay. Just note that mobile reception is really poor at this location "EE".

You really need new curtains as they don't fit properly. Also new outside furniture as the bench moves cos it's broken and the table and chairs are rusty and dirty. Please check flooring as when you go into bedroom or bathroom it feels like your going to go through the floor.

OK, but could have been better with more attention to detail. Clothes hanging space in the shower room. Curtains needed that covered the full width of the window. We were lucky with the weather so time in accommodation was minimal

A well equipped cottage with a comfortable bed. Shops and Cafe near by . Rather steep drive, big enough for one car, but able to park across the road if preferred. Cottage big enough for a couple and dog. A small private patio area to sit in when weather allows. We enjoyed our short stay and would recommend it. I wish we had been staying longer.

We had another lovely stay at The Wendy House. The location is good and off road parking a bonus. Although the property is small it has all you need for your stay. We walked along the causeway to Yarmouth and across Tennyson Down to The Old Battery both directly from the cottage. The outside seating area is a lovely place to have breakfast and the Read moresitting room area is cosy after a long walk. We have booked for next year and can't wait to return Hide

This cottage is perfectly located near to the bay, not far from the village, with everything you would want nearby for a peaceful holiday. We had what we needed for our stay which we thoroughly enjoyed, though it was obviously a place where dogs had been as there were plenty of hairs around and it wasn't as clean as we would have liked.
