Self-catering holidays in the south of the Isle of Wight
The South of the Isle of Wight is famous for its unique microclimate and is popular for holidays all year round. Offering some of the best sea views on the island, the dramatic coastline is dotted with pretty coves and beaches, the largest of which is the beach at Ventnor, famous for its vintage beach huts and promenade.
Heading inland, there are a whole host of beautiful rural areas just waiting to be discovered - Whitwell, Niton and Chale are welcoming small villages as is Bonchurch with its pretty village pond. Ideal for walking and cycling, the family dog will also find the spectacular trails in the area to their taste, especially if you stop at one of the lovely village pubs for a rest and a spot of lunch. For those who prefer the coast, St. Lawrence and Steephill Cove with their tranquil beaches and pretty coves are perfect for a beach picnic and afternoon of games with all the family, while Ventnor Botanical Gardens and the Ornamental Gardens are perfect for a relaxing afternoon after a busy morning seeing the sights.
To the west, the South Coast of the island is largely wild and underdeveloped. Mainly farmland, with an unspoilt shoreline, the Coast Path takes in elevated cliff top views for most of its length between Blackgang Chine and Compton Beach. Cliff erosion is prolific in this area so always keep to the paths.
