Self-catering holiday accommodation in East Cowes
Though often confused with the popular resort of Cowes, East Cowes is actually situated across the river Medina that runs from the Solent down to Newport at the heart of the Isle of Wight. The two towns are connected by the Cowes Floating Bridge, a chain ferry operated by the Isle of Wight Council. With spectacular views of the Solent, its beaches are part of the Isle of Wight coastal footpath which runs all around the island, with Ryde and Seaview found a few miles to the east.
East Cowes is home to Norris Castle as well as Osborne House, the former summer residence of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The latter had a major influence on the architecture in the area, including the nearby St. Mildred’s Church in Whippingham with its distinctive German-style turrets.
There are also a handful of interesting museums to visit, including the East Cowes Heritage Museum and the Classic Boat Museum. For those who want to kick back and relax, the town has a great selection of cafes, pubs and restaurants as well as shops for those who need a little retail therapy.
