Corfe Castle is both the name of the village and its spectacular castle, one of Britain’s most iconic surviving fortresses of the English Civil War-era. The castle sits in the heart of this beautiful rural village and both have become very popular with visitors from all around the globe who come to Dorset.
The shops and pubs of the village preserve the character of the village and have excellent local food. Consisting mainly of traditional houses built of Purbeck stone and with stone or thatched roofs, the village also has a number of original features such as a village water pump which is located in the main square.
The charming local church is open to the public for most of the year and there are plenty of photo opportunities for budding photographers, climbing up to and exploring the castle ruins or standing outside one of the other historic buildings in the area. Corfe Castle is also connected by the steam railway that runs down to the coast at Swanage.
