Stable Barn is a detached cottage with unforgettable open views across the garden and fields to the beautiful Arreton and Mersley Downs in the distance. The cottage is situated on a 12-acre farm which is home to horses. Ducks also often adorn the grassy courtyard near the cottage. This is a wonderful walking and cycling area with footpaths leading directly from the cottage to nearby villages and paths which join the Bembridge Trail, across rolling countryside to the coast. There is easy access to a cycle path linking the seaside resort of Sandown with the market town of Newport. The cycle path travels through the pretty villages of Newchurch and Godshill. There is a great public house The Pointer Inn for meals within a 10-15 minute walk. The sandy beaches of Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor are within an easy drive.

Stable Barn was converted in 2010 from a Grade II listed milking parlour into a delightful property which has been furnished and equipped to a high standard, providing comfortable accommodation for four people in two bedrooms, with en-suite bath/shower rooms. It enjoys open views across spectacular countryside from all of its main rooms. The accommodation has a spacious and airy feel, with a vaulted ceiling, exposed beams and floor to ceiling glass tri-fold doors which can be folded back to make the garden seem part of the living room. The open-plan living room is furnished with leather sofas, a wall mounted television with DVD/Freeview, and a hi-fi system with an iPod docking station so that visitors can enjoy their own music. There is a dining area where meals can be taken whilst enjoying the open rural views; an open-plan fitted kitchen equipped with an electric cooker and hob, microwave, slim-line dishwasher and fridge/freezer. A washer/dryer is provided in a separate cupboard.

The cottage has two bedrooms with incredible rural views, and each bedroom has a door to provide direct access to the outside. There is a double bedroom with a king-size bed and en-suite bathroom with a bath, overhead shower, basin and WC; a twin room with an en-suite shower room with a built in shower, basin and WC. There are plentiful supplies of hot water, and electric radiators which are thermostatically controlled to maintain an easily adjustable temperature in this well insulated property. A travel cot and high chair can be made available on request in advance.

There is a lovely, fenced and gated garden at the rear of the cottage with an ornamental cherry tree and an apple tree. There is a small raised patio area immediately outside of the living room doors leading to a gravelled area - an ideal place with garden furniture to enjoy morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening or outside dining. A barbecue can be provided free of charge, on request in advance. There are two parking spaces provided just across the entrance to the courtyard. A bus service is a quarter of a mile away. Access to the farm is via a bridleway and lane (mainly tarmac, with a central concrete section, which is a little bumpy in places). Nearby places to visit include Harvey Browns farm shop, café and restaurant, Amazon World Zoo Park, The Garlic Farm, The Roman Villa, Carisbrooke Castle and Havenstreet Steam Railway. Osborne House - the island home of Queen Victoria, is within a 20-minute drive.

The kitchen was well equipped. The only extra item I took was a slow cooker. The property never felt cold and we didn't need to increase the temperature on the heaters. There were dog walks from the property. The lane down to the property is very bumpy in places but this is stated in the property description and wasn't an issue for us but could be Read morefor a lower car . It was very peaceful out in the countryside but nowhere was far to travel to. Excellent farm shop and brewery close by. Hide

We could not fault the location, it was ideal for getting to other parts of the island. The garden was secure for our dog. There is an old rail track at the back of the property, that has been made into a path for walking, cycling and horse riding. Which again was ideal, there is a lovely coffee shop to the right and another one to the left.

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Stable Barn - everything was very clean, with a nice garden for our dog. The location was slightly rural but it was what we wanted.

This is a charming small barn conversion with an idyllic location (though possibly too off the beaten track for those who want a shop/pub on the doorstep). Close to most popular places to visit. Friendly host who was very helpful. Delightful views, great peace and quiet. Very clean.
