Mead Cottage is attractively situated on a 12 acre farm on the edge of the small rural hamlet of Alverstone in “An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty”. This is a wonderful position for outdoor pursuits, walking, cycling, fishing and golf. In the village there are lovely water meadows and fishing ponds with hides for bird and red squirrel watching. One Mead Cottage is one of a pair of self-catering cottages situated on the edge of a small rural village. We have tried to provide as much information as possible in this statement, if you have any queries please do call. We look forward to welcoming you.

  • The nearest bus stop in the village is approx. 200 metres from the entrance
  • The nearest large town is Newport, around 7 miles away. There are accessible taxis available there

Arrival and Car Parking Facilities

  • The property is accessed through the farmyard of Lower Borthwood Farm. Parking is to the rear of the cottages.
  • The rear yard is accessed up two steps, there is one more step to the french doors at the rear of the property
  • The front door access is level and 2m wide.

Entrances

  • The front entrance has a small wooden threshold.
  • Inside the front entrance there is a hallway 1.6m wide
  • The rear entrance has one step and a small plastic threshold

Kitchen

  • Accessed through double doors 1.05m wide
  • Worktop height 90cm
  • oven doors hinge to the rear
  • Sink is 90cm high with cupboards underneath
  • Hob is 90 high
  • Flooring is ceramic tiling
  • Evenly lit kitchen with ceiling spotlights and lighting above the hob

  • Accessed via an outward opening door with a small wooden threshold.

The cottage is located on a small 12 acre farm which is home to horses, cows and a few free range chickens. The farm is in “An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty” and has a charming large pond which attracts ducks, moorhens and the occassional heron.

The Tennyson Trail extending to the western tip of the island is also easily reached. The cottage has been furnished and equipped with care to a high standard and offers charming accommodation in beautiful surroundings with ducks, swans and a huge variety of other wildlife including red squirrels as constant visitors. Horses are kept on the farm and trout fishing can be arranged. The central location of the cottage makes it an ideal base for touring the island.

The sandy coves of Colwell Bay and Totland Bay are a short drive away.

It is only a mile from the sea and is in a wonderful walking and cycling area. The cottage has recently been renovated to provide very attractive centrally heated accommodation with a walled courtyard style garden. There are lovely open views across fields to the downs and with glimpses of the sea from the upper bedrooms.

One Mead Cottage is a non smoking cottage. WiFi Internet is provided free of charge at One Mead Cottage. One Mead Cottage is available for weekly self catering holiday bookings from Saturday to Saturday. The normal arrival time at this holiday cottage is 15:30 and the normal departure time is 10:00. Short break weekend and midweek self catering holidays are available from 28th October 2017 to 17th December 2017, 6th January 2018 to 8th February 2018, 17th February 2018 to 22nd March 2018 and 27th October 2018 to 20th December 2018.

Alverstone stands just inland of Sandown on the East of the Isle of Wight. There are good connections with the coast and Sandown and Shanklin as well as Bembridge, Seaview and St Helens are all within a short drive. Alverstone was once a stop along the Sandown to Newport railway and now this route has been turned into a cycle track and footpath. The track runs across the local nature reserve of Alverstone Mead and the SSSI of Alverstone Marshes. These sites are excellent for bird watching and a chance to see a rich variety of wildlife. Information about bringing your pets or dog to One Mead Cottage Alverstone Isle of Wight

Specific Pet Policy for One Mead Cottage

Two dogs are welcome and the back garden is enclosed. Pets are not permitted upstairs, on the furniture or in the bedrooms. We also ask owners not to allow their dogs to foul the garden. Dogs can be left alone in cottage if crated and not noisy. Puppies and also dogs with incontinence problems are not permitted without specific agreement and would need to be crated. Please be aware that there are free range chicken on the farm so dogs need to be closely monitored when outside of the walled cottage garden. Please ensure that your pet's treatment for the prevention of fleas is up to date. Cats accepted by agreement if house cats and fully housetrained.
