This pretty cottage is attractively situated within a pleasant ten minute walk of the sandy beach of Ventnor or the quiet cove of Steephill on the south coast of the Island. Ventnor Park is at the rear of the cottage and paths lead through these gardens to the Esplanade. These gardens also adjoin the Botanical Garden of Ventnor which is renowned for its rare plants and the mild climate. The Clock House is one of a small group of cottages which have been converted from the original stables of Steephill Manor House. Pricing and Booking Notes for The Clock House

Introduction

Clockhouse is a holiday cottage and part of a building that once formed the stables to Steephill Castle. It is set out over one floor at ground floor level with all facilities and access at that level. Each room has means of escape to the garden or courtyard without passing through any other room.

Pre-Arrival

  • All guests are provided with written directions to the house
  • There is no landline phone number for the house and no broadband facility
  • Public transport is available from the bus stop outside the property -the local bus service operates a service from Ventnor to Ryde/Newport. The time-table for the service is in the house
  • Although located within the town of Ventnor the centre is about a mile away (approximately 10-15 minutes walk or a short car/bus journey) There are a range of shops and facilities including a supermarket, bank, post office, doctors surgery, pubs, restaurants and take a ways
  • the local Somerfield in Ventnor operates a delivery service for groceries
  • Taxi details are in the house information guide
  • This access statement is available in the 'Welcome File' in the cottage

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

  • The property is set in a gated courtyard which is usually shut at night although not locked
  • There is parking for 1 car directly outside the property on the courtyard and cars should be parked facing the property. There is direct access on level ground into the main entrance to Clockhouse
  • The courtyard is tiled and flat
  • There is lighting to the courtyard provided by the outside light to the property

Main Entrance, Reception

  • The main entrance to the house used when you arrive is the front door. Given the security offered by the private and gated courtyard, the key is left in the door for new guest
  • There are 2 other entrances to the house, via the conservatory and lounge at the rear and both are accessed via a gate in the walled garden which is accessed from a gravel driveway to the rear. The gate is secured by a sliding bolt but not locked. All entrances are at ground level.
  • On the side board in the kitchen is the 'Welcome Pack' which has all details about the house within it.

Public Areas - Hall, Stairs, Landing, Corridors etc

  • There is one floor (with a mezzanine in the bathroom for storage)
  • All facilities are therefore located on the ground floor
  • The flooring is wooden throughout apart from the bathroom/changing room which is carpeted in short pile (100% wool)

Public Areas - Sitting room, lounges, lobbies etc

  • The sitting room is furnished with a two seat sofa and arm chair
  • There is a flat screen HD ready TV (with Free SAT) and remote controls.

Bedrooms & Sleeping Areas

  • There is one bedroom located on the ground floor between the kitchen and bathroom
  • All bedding is cotton with non feather pillows and duvets
  • the bedroom has 1 King Size bed
  • There is also a cot and folding bed for extra guests when requested

Bathroom, Shower-room & WC

  • The bathroom facilities are on the ground floor
  • The bathroom has a sink, toilet, bath and separate shower (one step up)
  • The main bathroom has direct access to both the conservatory and bedroom.

Self-Catering Kitchen

  • The kitchen is on the ground floor and is all one level
  • The taps are screw on/off
  • The worktop is at standard height
  • Catering standard crockery, glasses, cups are provided in the side board by the kitchen door. Pans and cooking pots/dishes are in the baskets next to the range cooker
  • The range cooker is gas hob and oven with electric ignition
  • The Fridge/freezer is located next to the cooker (under the work surface).
  • The kitchen is lit by two separate sets of ceiling lights. The flooring is wood

Laundry

  • There is a front loading washing machine available in the kitchen ( under the work surfaces). There is a tumble dryer in the conservatory area.

Grounds and Gardens

  • There is a pond which is not covered although only a few inches deep
  • The garden is walled, private and secure. It is part paved and part lawn with planting around three sides
  • There are a table and two chairs

Additional Information

  • No smoking is allowed in the house
  • No pets or animals are allowed in the house, and no provision is made for them
  • There is a fire extinguisher in the kitchen

From here the Tennyson Trail can be followed to The Needles on the western tip of the Island or inland to Carisbrooke with its medieval castle. The cottage is only 1/2 mile from the village centre with public house for meals, bistro/tea shop, excellent village shop with local produce. The quiet beaches of Brighstone Bay are also nearby.

This charming stone cottage is situated on a lovely farm close to the picturesque village of Brighstone, on the west side of the Island. The cottage is only a mile from the coast and it is a pleasant walk across the fields to the sea. Here there is a beach where visitors can enjoy swimming, fishing and paddling. The sandy coves of Colwell Bay and Totland Bay are a short drive away.

The Clock House has ground floor accommodation and is a non smoking cottage. WiFi Internet is provided free of charge at The Clock House. The Clock House is available for weekly self catering holiday bookings from Saturday to Saturday. The normal arrival time at this holiday cottage is 14:30 and the normal departure time is 10:00. Short break weekend and midweek self catering holidays are available from 28th October 2017 to 17th December 2017, 6th January 2018 to 8th February 2018, 17th February 2018 to 22nd March 2018 and 27th October 2018 to 20th December 2018.

The South of the Isle of Wight is a wonderful mix of pretty beaches and dramatic coastal landscape. The sand and shingle beach at Ventnor is one of the more popular holiday locations but hidden gems such as Bonchurch and Steephill Cove are really worth a visit too.

The coastal path around the South Coast of the Isle of Wight is a particularly beautiful stretch to explore and passes a number of attractive sites which include Steephill Cove, Orchard Bay and St Catherine's Light House at Niton Undercliff. Some of this area has been prone to erosion so you must stick to the footpath and take heed of diversions.
