Gurnard Beach is a characterful strip of beach on the northern shore of the Isle of Wight just outside the centre of Cowes. With its row of colourful green beach huts, its pebble beach gives you front row views of the busy Solent and its pleasant melée of ships, yachts and boats at play. With its slightly western aspect you can enjoy some great sunsets too. Behind the beach huts is a large sloped green with children's playground area.
Also on the seafront is a popular cafe and restaurant (open during summer), where refreshments can be bought too. Try a Minghella ice cream cone, the delicious local brand that rules the roost. Sailing is a popular pursuit at this beach, especially between the main beach and Gurnard Marsh, further to the east. The beach is within walking distance of the centre of Cowes, along the lovely Egypt and Prince’s Esplanade. At the time of writing, there isn’t a bus service to Gurnard from Cowes but the 1.5 mile long walk is level and paved all the way.
Public toilets, disabled facilities, and a slipway are also all available to visitors. There are some dog restrictions in place along sections of the beach. Please check onsite guides.
Please read the beach safety notices at Gurnard Beach concerning local sea conditions.
