Property code: IC169

Bright, light-filled detached property enjoying a fantastic elevated location overlooking Steephill Cove on the Isle of Wight’s south coast and offering contemporary-style accommodation for eight guests.

Western Lines enjoys panoramic coastal views from almost every room. It is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the south east coast of the Island, an area renowned for its mild climate. The house stands just above the charming fishing village of Steephill Cove, a place often written about in magazines due to its simplicity and tranquillity, plus its excellent fish restaurant and cafe. Here, meals can be enjoyed in the summer whilst watching children playing in the rock pools and swimming in the sea, which is only a stones throw away. The fact that this picture-postcard cove can only be accessed by foot only adds to its attraction. The small seaside resort of Ventnor is within an enjoyable 20-minute walk of the house, and the larger seaside resorts of Sandown and Shanklin are only a ten-minute drive away. Here, there are long sandy beaches which gently slope into the water, children's play parks and a variety of more lively entertainments.

Western Lines is a secluded, detached property with spacious, light and airy rooms. In order to take full advantage of the spectacular sea views, the main living accommodation is upstairs. Here, there is an open-plan room with a fitted kitchen offering an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. (A washing machine and tumble dryer are housed in the garage). There is a sitting area with large picture windows overlooking the sea, furnished with a sofa and chairs, plus a television with FreeSat and DVD player. A telephone and WiFi internet are also provided. A glazed door opens from the sitting room on to a large balcony where visitors can relax in the sunshine and enjoy meals whilst watching the boats. On this upper floor there is also a double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom containing a bath, overhead shower, W.C. and basin.

On the ground floor there are three spacious bedrooms - one double room and two twin rooms. A travel cot and high chair can be provided if required. There is a W.C. on this floor and a separate shower room with a built in shower and basin. Central heating and electricity are provided without extra charge. The house has been furnished and equipped with care to provide attractive and comfortable accommodation for eight people in a truly wonderful location.

The house has a pretty garden with lawns and shrubs. There is a fenced area with a lawn where visitors can relax and children can play games. To the side of the house, a few steps lead to a lower lawn with garden furniture. Two cars can be parked in the drive at the front of the house. Western Lines is within a five-minute stroll of Ventnor Botanical Garden where there is a cafe for light meals and teas. Even closer, is the cricket pavilion where a drink can be enjoyed at the bar overlooking the green. Public transport and shops are within a 20 minutes walk. There are nearby historic sites to be enjoyed such as Carisbrooke Castle and Osborne House - the Island home of Queen Victoria; entertainments for children at the seaside resorts, plus Blackgang Chine Adventure Park, Robin Hill County Park, Amazon World Zoo Park; sailing and boating activities; the steam railway; fishing lakes at Whitwell; golf courses at Freshwater, Sandown and Cowes and great restaurants with AA rosettes at Ventnor, Bonchurch, Yarmouth and Seaview.

Please note there is a refundable £200 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

Western Lines is in a splendid position and is a comfortable, warm place to spend time. The views are lovely and it is glorious to spend time sitting out on the balcony. The parking area is quite difficult though, being on a slope, and the drive entrance is narrow. It is quite a challenge to turn a larger car in the area provided.

This was our first trip away since the pandemic and we were a little nervous holidaying with two Vulnerable Adults. We need not have worried, the cottage was beautifully clean and we immediately relaxed into a very enjoyable stay. A big thank you to Cyndy who keeps the cottage pristine. The views are amazing from this property, fully recommend!

Western Lines is in a truly beautiful setting and brilliantly located for Steephill Cove access. The house is comfortable and is a great base for exploring the surrounding area. We had a great week. The house is well-equipped, though the showers do need upgrading, especially the upstairs (en-suite) one.

House is in an fabulous position, with excellent views down to bay below and out to sea, Trees need triming back to restore views. Private path straight down to sea needs repair due to erosion. We had a fox sleeping on the lawn one morning, which illustrates the privacy of the grounds. Lovely cliff walks to Ventnor and Steephill Cove.

This is a lovely, light , spacious cottage with breathtaking views over the sea. The view can be enjoyed from the balcony at the back , and there is also a shady balcony at the front of the house. I would not recommend staying here. It is an absolute dive. Damp throughout, had to move my son as room was not habitable. There were bugs, slugs and spiders everywhere. The house is in a fantastic position looking over the sea and is set within trees and a lovely garden. However, the owners would be advised to put in position good signage in the future.

Overall the experience was disappointing, the property is very neglected and requires refurbishment and the garden is in urgent need of tree surgery. Balconies were grubby and needed jet washing. Having to hire towels was an irritation and should be included in the price.

A lovely property in a quiet and beautiful location, with spectacular sea views, on the best side of the island with Ventnor walkable from the property. Western Lines is situated in a wonderful position with extensive sea views. A great place for ship spotters! It is warm and comfortable and spacious and is a great hit with all the family. We have rented it three times in recent years and hope to return again soon.

The property advertises access to the coastal path but this is now dangerous. For 8 people there was only one proper shower. The house is in a lovely position with great sea views but needs significant improvement.
