This lovingly renovated former Victorian stable block boasts stylish and bright open-plan accommodation for memorable family holidays by the sea.

Milton Stables is situated on the south west of the Isle of Wight within a five-minute walk of Freshwater Bay and Tennyson Down. This is a wonderful walking and cycling area with easy access to the coastal path - a particularly beautiful route westwards to the Needles, or eastwards to St Catherine's lighthouse on the southern tip of the Isle of Wight. It is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with a variety of small coves where swimming, surfing, paddling and boating can be enjoyed, as well as a two-mile long sandy beach at nearby Compton Bay. There are general stores, tea shops and restaurants within a five-minute walk of the cottage. A two-minute drive also takes you to the town of Freshwater with supermarkets and a variety of shops, inns and restaurants, plus a sports centre with gym and swimming pool.

This is a detached property situated in a quiet crescent. As its name suggests, it has been converted and extended from a Victorian stable block. The skilfully renovated building provides spacious accommodation with a light and airy feel. French doors open from the courtyard into a central hallway, with stairs leading up to a galleried landing and you can also find double room containing a king-size bed and en-suite bathroom with bath, basin and WC, plus a cosy sitting room with attic style sloping ceilings, two sofas and a wall mounted TV with Freeview and a DVD player.

On the ground floor there is a spacious open-plan living room with a comfortable sofa and a central dining area beside French doors opening into the courtyard. The interconnected fitted kitchen is equipped with an electric oven and ceramic hob, microwave, sink, dishwasher, washing machine, refrigerator and freezer. There is also a twin bedroom with flat screen television with Freeview, and wet room with shower, basin and WC on the ground floor. A travel cot and high chair are available. Central heating and electricity are provided without extra charge. The cottage has a tiled courtyard style garden at the front of the property which is gated and fenced. Garden furniture is provided. There is unallocated onstreet parking, an additional off road space available inside the gated courtyard to park one small car. A links golf course with spectacular views is within a ten-minute walk.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

We we had a wonderful stay here! It was very well located so close to the beach, shops & cafes. A few points to note; It is very well provided for in terms of self catering equipment (kitchenware, linen etc). The upstairs ceilings are really quite low, so not ideal for those over 6ft. The courtyard garden is not very private, & is quite overlooked.Read more There isn't much parking in the road, and lots of building works at the mo makes it worse so bear in mind. But we loved it & really hope to return! Hide

The fact that we have kept returning to Milton Stables in mid-May for several years is evidence that we find it suits our needs. Coming over from Lymington to Yarmouth is one of the most expensive ferry crossings going but staying for a fortnight seems to balance the cost! Having the Co-op supermarket in Freshwater is very handy and the Freshwater Read moreCoffee House never fails to satisfy!! Hide

The cottage was well equipped and very cozy. We loved the upstairs snug. The only downside was the upstairs bedroom which was spacious and well furnished but the low ceiling caused some unwelcome head banging. Lovely situation with great coastal walks. We walked to Alum Bay and cycled around the island. We liked Dimbola Lodge nearby which does a grRead moreeat breakfast as well as tea and cake. We have had many cottages over the years and this is one of the best. The cottage is quirky but has what you need. Beware of the low ceilings upstairs, a lack of care will result in a bruised head. There is very little food storage so dont bring more than a couple of days of food.

Lovely cottage in a very friendly and quiet street and perfectly located for long walks to the Needles and visits to the beach. The courtyard was a lovely place to sit in the warmer days and evenings. Milton Stables had everything we needed and it was a very lovely place to return to after our long dog walks on the cliffs. We would love to return.

Loved the upstairs with the sitting room space. Warm & comfortable, fairly close to the Beach and local Cafes. Would return to see the Island without storm Dave.

Beautiful cottage with plenty of space and good kitchen facilities for a Christmas holiday. Local cafes, shops, pub and the spectacular Freshwater Bay all within walking distance. We would definitely stay here again.

Lovely location and very quiet. If going late in the year take a torch, there are no street lights. Because of ferry and road problems we arrived in the dark, nightmare!

The cottage is lovely, in a nice quiet part of Freshwater. Just a short walk to the small but lovely beach down the road. A little overpriced compared to similar sized and similar located cottages but we had a lovely time here.

Excellent location in the quieter corner of IOW. Colwell Bay and Totland have good nearby beaches. Great walking on the Downs. Plenty of space and a lovely courtyard to sit out. Enjoyed the upstairs sitting room but can be a bit too warm for sleeping.
