Lavender Cottage is situated on a farm in one of the loveliest parts of the Isle of Wight, lying at the foot of Appuldurcombe Down and above the picturesque village of Godshill, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A pleasant ten-minute stroll through the beech copse and across the fields leads to the centre of Godshill. This village is renowned for its church and pretty thatched cottages. It has a variety of tea shops and restaurants, as well as pleasant public houses. There is also immediate access from the farm courtyard to footpaths and bridleways leading to Appuldurcombe and along the Stenbury Trail to the coast at Ventnor. The sandy beaches of Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor are under a twenty-minute drive away.

Above the arable fields of the farm lie sweeping open downlands, where sheep graze and over which guests are welcome to walk along the marked trails. From the top of these downs, there are panoramic views across the Isle of Wight towards the Hampshire and Dorset coastline. Buzzards and skylarks are often seen from these downs. In nearby woodland Red Squirrels and badgers can be glimpsed as well as a variety of wild flowers. In the spring the bluebells carpet the woods in a blue haze. In the farm courtyard, owls and woodpeckers are frequent visitors.

Lavender Cottage is one of three adjoining cottages that are south facing, and overlook the attractive farm courtyard with its ancient Grade II listed barns and traditional farmhouse which dates back to the 17th century. From the rear of the cottage there are mesmerising views stretching across the open fields to the church tower of Godshill, with St. Georges Downs beyond. The cottage has been carefully converted from an old barn and has been renovated sympathetically. It is furnished in a traditional style with fitted carpets and central heating. There is a spacious sitting room for relaxing, with a flat screen Smart TV, plus a pleasant dining area with a floor to ceiling feature window.

There are two bedrooms; one double and one twin room with feature floor to ceiling beams between the beds and a sloped ceiling on one side, plus a bathroom with a bath, overhead shower and sloped ceiling, and a downstairs cloakroom with a second WC. and hand basin. The cottage has a well-equipped fitted kitchen with an electric cooker and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. Guests have shared use with the other cottages of a laundry room with a washing machine and a tumble dryer. A travel cot and high chair are available. WiFi internet is available.

There is a sunny, fenced patio at the front of the cottage overlooking the fountain. Garden furniture is also provided. Within a minutes walk of the cottage is an open lawned area suitable for ball games. Here, visitors can relax with their children or enjoy a barbecue. Beautiful carpets of bluebells can be a joy to see in nearby woodland in late April and early May. Car parking spaces are available close to the cottage. A regular bus service and shop are within a ten-minute walk.

Absolutely fantastic cottage and location, possibly one of the best we have stayed in. Very quiet and scenic location but very close to everything. Well kitted out cottage, very comfortable and cosy. Parking right outside and set back off the main road. We would definitely stay here again.

Lovely cottage with a gorgeous view, we were lucky to have an end property with large windows. Living room was a lovely size and the cottage had everything that you could require including comfy bed. Ideal if you are taking your dog as lovely walks and no worries about traffic.

The cottage was in a lovely location. There was a good garden to play in a short walk down the footpath. Needs more attention to detail with the cobwebs. The table and television aerial were broken so we had to contact Holiday Cottages, who sorted it out, but the cleaner should have sorted this as it wasnt something you could have missed . Also theRead morere was someone at the holiday cottage or farm who did not pick up after their dog. This is very unpleasant so I picked it up. Hide

A lovely cottage in peaceful, rural location accessed by single track lanes from Godshill village. Not really suitable for tall people as upstairs rooms have low sloping ceilings.

This is a great cottage. When we find a good cottage we generally comment that we'll be back, for once I mean it. The location is brilliant, close enough to the attractions in the South of the island (Ventor, Shanklin, Sandown, Blackgang Chine, all 15 minutes away). The cottage is surrounded by bridleways and paths. As for the cottage, it has everyRead morething you need, simply presented, and clean. Good parking and somewhere for the dog to run. Hide

A lovely farm building conversion cottage set in grounds of other farm properties. Good parking. Nice place to sit outside at the front. Good base for the island as nothing is really more than 40 minutes away. 2 toilets - bonus! However - the shower is over the bath and very weak. Comfy enough - but no soap, no kitchen spray or bin bags. The appliaRead morences are old and don't match, same for the dinnerware and mugs. Pillows very flat :( Nest heating for wet days :) dogs had a nice time :) Hide

Beautiful cottage in lovely surroundings. Nice countryside walk into nearby town. Dishwasher is next to useless as it doesn't clean adequately on any setting. Nevertheless we had a fabulously relaxing holiday. Thank you.
