This 19th-century chapel cleverly blends original features with contemporary comforts to create a quirky base for a relaxing holiday. Ideally positioned for exploring both the coast and countryside.

Located in the heart of Whitwell, this stunning 19th-century chapel offers a truly unique stay on the Isle of Wight. Exquisitely renovated to preserve the chapel’s original features and character, this four-bedroom holiday home is quirky, comfortable and luxurious. There’s plenty of space for relaxing and entertaining, including an indoor games room and outdoor decking with a BBQ and dining area.

Spread over two floors, this semi-detached property has striking stained glass windows, a beamed and vaulted ceiling, and some impressive arched doorways. The hub of the property is the magnificent lounge, which runs the full height of the building. There’s an assortment of comfortable seating, a beautiful tiled fireplace with a wall-mounted television above, large stained glass windows that flood the room with natural light, and a mezzanine level along two sides of the room. The stylish kitchen features a range-style cooker, and there’s a choice of dining areas, including a breakfast table in the kitchen, a formal dining room, and an outdoor table. Play table tennis, pool or darts in the game rooms located in the entranceway, and enjoy a restful night’s sleep in the four comfortable bedrooms, which have some areas with restricted head height owing to the unique shape of the building. The entire property is beautifully furnished and decorated with some antique furniture that matches the style of the chapel, along with contemporary comforts including lovely freestanding bathtubs and large modern sofas.

Although a small village, Whitwell is home to a 700-year-old church, the oldest pub on the Isle of Wight dating back to the 15th century, and an ancient ‘whit well’ popular with medieval pilgrims to the island. The seaside town of Ventnor is 3 miles south, with its lovely sand and shingle beach backed by beach huts converted from Victorian bathing machines. Gardeners will love Ventnor Botanic Gardens (2.5 miles), while Blackgang Chine (3 miles) offers fun for all the family.

This was a beautiful property which had all the equipment you need for a home from home stay. Nice welcome pack too and lots of communication from the owners to assist your stay. Location is perfect as you're not too far from anywhere but not in the middle of the busier towns. Nice local pub within walking distance too! A lovely house that was once a chapel. It was a pleasure to stay here. Lots of character that was very impressive to see. It comfortably met our expectations. The owner was available when needed.

Wonderful property and the location is fantastic with places to walk and a friendly local pub 2 minutes walk away. The bathrooms are all amazing and living area is spacious and comfortable. We would all definitely stay here again!

The Chapel is really lovely. Great space for get together, loved the games room. A great location. Nice touch having fans in the bedrooms. The local pub is definitely worth a visit, very good food. Host very responsive and helpful.

Great cottage with homely feel. Beautifully decorated. Owner very attentive and dealt with a few issues we had. Welcome pack was a lovely touch. And lots of information regarding local eateries. We all enjoyed our stay - three couples, 2 dogs and one 3 year old. Well equipped, great pool/table-tennis table, easily suitable for 3 couples. Nice local walk up to the alpacas and great local pub (White Horse) - good food, garden and play area. Interesting property, delighted with the barbecue. Wonderful comfortable beds. Kitchen could do with a bit of uplift, and it is a long way at night from the middle top bedroom to the nearest loo. Not a lot that can be done about that! We were very comfortable, plenty of hot water and a good sized frig.

Had a fantastic holiday staying at the Old Chapel in Whitwell. The Chapel is a wonderful property with its wooden beams and hidden passageways. It was very well equipped and plenty of room for 6 adults, a baby and a dog. Made full use the games room which was a great addition. We had a great time exploring the local area. A beautiful property with lots of character. It suited our family (4 adults and 2 children) well. The big lounge is a highlight, the kitchen is well equipped and the children loved the pool table. Communication with the owner was excellent - friendly and helpful.
