Traditional stone cottage offering comfortable accommodation for up to six guests, enjoying a quiet location in a rural hamlet just two miles outside the picturesque village of Godshill.

This lovely stone cottage is beautifully situated in the peaceful hamlet of Roud, within a five minute drive of the picturesque village of Godshill and only a ten minute drive from the coast. The beach resorts of Shanklin and Ventnor are a 15 minute drive away. The hamlet of Roud is surrounded by rolling South Isle of Wight countryside and it is a wonderful walking area with footpaths leading to nearby downs, and a particularly scenic walk which follows the course of the River Yar southwards to Niton and eastwards to the coast at Bembridge.

One Elm Cottage is one of a pair of cottages - the adjoining cottage Two Elm Cottage sleeps an additional 6 guests and is also available to be booked for holidays. One Elm Cottage has been furnished and equipped with care to provide attractive and comfortable accommodation for five to six guests in three bedrooms. It is double glazed and heated with storage heaters and a wood burning stove. Several original features have been retained in the cottage including the flagstone/pine floors and statement fireplaces. On the ground floor there is a spacious sitting room with two large sofas, flat screen television with Freeview and DVD player, and a wood burning stove; an attractive separate dining room where meals can be enjoyed; a shower room with built in shower, basin and W.C; a fitted kitchen equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer and washing machine. ( A tumble dryer is also provided in a separate area).

Stairs lead up to a bathroom with a bath, W.C. and basin, plus three charming bedrooms; a double bedroom with a standard double bed, a bunk bedroom for children and a single room which can be converted into a twin room by use of the full size single trundle bed if required. A stair gate, travel cot and high chair can be provided. Wifi connection is available. Electric heating and lighting are without extra charge. The cottage has a gorgeous garden with a large lawn at the rear of the cottage where games can be played. Further areas of garden are at the side and front of the cottage. Shared driveway with adjoining cottage which provides driveway parking for one car and an entrance through this garden provides easy access for when you arrive at the cottage and depart at the end of the holiday. At other times visitors have a private entrance from the lane which leads up ten steps to the garden. An additional car can be parked in the lane. A trampoline with nets is another attractive feature of the garden for children.

There are general stores and three public houses which are great for food within five minutes drive, and the larger shops and supermarkets of Newport are within a 15 minute drive. Nearby places of interest to visit include Carisbrooke Castle, Ventnor Botanical Garden, Amazon Adventure, Blackgang Chine and only a little further afield is Osborne House, the island home of Queen Victoria.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Please note there is a refundable £100 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

The cottage and gardens were lovely, exceptionally peaceful with beautiful countryside. If there was one slight down side it would be the parking provided. Our dogs especially enjoyed the walk along the river Yar which is just a few minutes from the cottage. Overall a comfortable well equipped cottage providing a relaxing holiday. One thing I would Read moresuggest is not to miss your ferry and arrive in pouring rain and gale force winds in the dark it's quite hard to find. Hide

Situated in a lovely secluded location but pretty convenient for anywhere in the island. Godshill was close by and we enjoyed eating in Woods (service and food really good - plus excellent gluten free support). All in all very good.

Lovely cottage with loads of equipment, including games that we made the most of while there (the Isle of Wight Monopoly was the particular favourite). Lovely location and grounds. Well worth the few days we had there.

Lovely stone cottage in a very quiet location. The garden was ideal for children with plenty of lawned areas. This is a fantastic cottage in an ideal rural retreat, but still close enough to Godshill to make it a great base for exploring the island. The cottage was so peaceful and had a real holiday feel to it. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

We had a very enjoyable stay. We loved the peace and quiet of the cottage no passing traffic in the lane , except for the occasional horse. The garden was perfect for children to play and the dog loved it too. A perfect inland location to explore the Island .
