This beautiful cottage is situated on the sea front near Cowes and enjoys spectacular open views across the Solent - just a stones throw away. Visitors can relax and watch a constantly changing scene with sailing boats, liners and small sea craft. The centre of Cowes is within a 15-minute walk - a fashionable sailing centre renowned for the Cowes week sailing event in August The town has a range of boutique shops and some excellent restaurants. The quaint coastal resort of Gurnard is also within a pleasant ten-minute stroll along the sea front; here there is a public house, cafe and children's adventure play area.
Briary Cottage is nestled in a conservation area which has recently been skilfully converted from the original coach house of The Briary; a large Victorian house - no longer in existence. Briary Cottage and Briary Lodge, formerly the groom's house, now stand side by side within a large garden overlooking the sea.
The cottage has been furnished and equipped to a high standard. It has underfloor heating on the ground floor, beneath the oak and tiled floors. There is an open plan fitted kitchen with a range style cooker with 5 gas hobs, a wok facility, a double electric oven, dishwasher, microwave, sink and fridge freezer. A separate utility room houses a second sink, washing machine and tumble dryer. There is also a ground floor bedroom with twin beds/king-size double (zip and link facility), patio doors providing access to the garden and an en-suite bathroom with a bath, overhead shower, basin and W.C. An additional shower room on the ground floor boasts a large walk in shower, basin and W.C.
Guests can relax in the open plan living room with a large floor to ceiling window taking full advantage of the open sea views. This room has two sofas, a flat 32 inch hi-definition television with Freeview, Blu-ray and DVD player, a wood burning stove, plus an attractive dining area. A door opens from the living room onto an enclosed staircase ascending to a bedroom in the octagonal tower of the cottage. This is a charming double bedroom with sea views. Please be aware that the upstairs bedroom is not suitable for young children due to the galleried stairwell and open staircase. Central heating and electricity are without extra charge. WiFi internet is available.
Briary Cottage has a secluded raised terrace at the side of the property with garden furniture so that meals can be eaten outside whilst enjoying the wonderful sea views. There is a second terrace at the front of the cottage with open sea views, plus a lawn area where visitors can unwind. Visitors are asked not to play ball games in the garden due to the proximity of the esplanade and of the large picture window of the sitting room. (The garden is not formerly separated from that of Briary Lodge which is occupied by the owners of the cottage). A private path leads directly from the sea front to the cottage. Cars can generally be parked in the road just outside of the property in this quiet area of Cowes. During Cowes week or if visitors have particular concerns it may be possible to make arrangements for a car to be parked in the drive of Briary Lodge. There is a regular bus service within two-minutes walk and a public house within a ten minutes walk. Shops, restaurants and access to the Red Jet service to the mainland are a 15 minutes walk away. Nearby places to visit include Osborne House, the island home of Queen Victoria, the National Nature Reserve at Newtown and Havenstreet Steam Railway. A golf course, sailing courses, fishing and boating trips are also easily accessible.
