Walkers will love how close the place is to the South West Coast Path (50 metres), which you can follow along to landmarks like Ballard Cliff (1 mile), Old Harry’s Rocks (2 miles) and pretty Studland (3 miles) for car-free days out.

You’ll no doubt spend plenty of time in the welcoming lounge, which leads to a sun-soaked conservatory with expansive windows framing spectacular sea views. You’ll have three spacious bedrooms – two twins and a double – and a family bathroom with a shower over the bath. Outside, the large lawned garden, accessible via the conservatory, is bordered by mature trees and shrubs – fab for relaxing on a sunny day. You can’t beat sitting out on the furnished patio and tucking into al fresco meals while taking in the breathtaking coastal panorama. Guests can also benefit from private parking for two cars.

Locally, walk along Swanage’s Victorian pier (1.5 miles) then pop in for lunch somewhere. In the afternoon, why not board a steam train at Swanage Station (1 mile) and ride to Corfe (5 miles) to visit its dramatic castle ruins, standing high on a hill overlooking the village? Plenty of opportunities on the Jurassic Coast await, from surfing and snorkelling at Kimmeridge (10 miles) to admiring the iconic limestone arch at Durdle Door (17.5 miles).

Another weeks stay at this great location. Wonderful views and comfortable accommodation. The property although old has much charm and a lot going for it. Some more renovation required to improve total satisfaction would be of advantage. But looking forward to 2026 for our 6th visit. Long may it continue. Heather & Neil West Sussex

This property is in a perfect location with beautiful views of the sea and ideal access to the north beach and the coast path. For us these qualities outweigh the fact that the property is rather dated.

Not easy to drive to - if you have a large car I suggest you walk to the cottage first and have a look! First impressions are not good - stick with it. The woodwork is fascinating. The view makes up for every shortcoming. Good access to Swanage along beach (if you can clamber over barriers) - watch tides.

We have been coming to 22 Ballard Estate for many years and love its location and views. Like us, it is beginning to show its age and needs some love and attention paid to it. Though we miss the corner shop and the steps down to the beach, we shall no doubt continue to book it on an annual basis !

Great location. Dated property in need of restoration ( but not viable ) Full of character and charm. Have visited for many years with hopefully many more to come. Always a pleasure to be there to relex and enjoy the Purbeck area. Always good suport from Original Cottages.

After the first impressions of it being very dated we did warm to the property especially with the fabulous view. Ripped wallpaper over fire in lounge not acceptable. We wouldn't stay again
