Property code: OC-IC036

Coastguard Cottage is situated in a truly exceptional position on the cliff top of St Albans Head, surrounded by the rolling hills and countryside of the Isle of Purbeck with views of the sea and of the spectacular Jurassic coastline, both westwards and eastwards. The cottage is in a peaceful oasis which offers a wonderful escape with beautiful coastal walks and miles of cycling routes along quiet lanes and bridleways. It is also a great spot for bird watching with Peregrine Falcons and sky larks as frequent visitors. The small cove of Chapman's Pool is within a 20 minute walk - only accessible by boat or walking, it is a quiet spot for a swim and perfect for fossil hunting. The large, sandy beach of Swanage is within a 15 minute drive and here, swimming, paddling, fishing, diving and boating can be enjoyed along with steam train rides to the nearby picturesque village of Corfe Castle. Worth Matravers is approximately two miles from the cottage and here, there is a traditional public house renowned for its local ciders, plus a tea shop/supper room. Visitors can also walk to Kingston where there is a great public house for meals.

Coastguard Cottage is comprised of two cottages which have been combined and renovated in recent years to provide attractive and comfortable accommodation for six people in four bedrooms. It is one of a small terrace of four properties with coastal views from almost every room in the cottage. It is a light and spacious property with attractive tiled floors downstairs and hessian fitted carpets upstairs. The cottage is warmed with storage heaters, two open fires and three wood burning stoves.

There are two sitting room areas interlinked by French doors; one with two sofas and an arm chair in the second area a further sofa, arm chairs, wall mounted flat screen television with Freeview and another open fire; a lovely fitted kitchen with wooden units, hardwood work tops, a Belfast sink, an AGA for cooking and heating, microwave, air fryer, dishwasher, large fridge freezer and washing machine, plus a lovely dining area by one of the windows overlooking the garden; a cloakroom with WC and basin which also provides access to the rear garden.

Stairs lead up to four spacious bedrooms which all enjoy coastal views; one king size, two double bedrooms and one twin. There is a small bathroom with a bath, overhead shower, basin and WC. A travel cot and high chair can be provided. A small, portable electric oven with two hot plates can also be made available on request. Heating and electricity is at no extra charge. WiFi available

Coastguard cottage has walled and gated gardens with a large lawn. Garden furniture and a barbecue are provided so that meals can be enjoyed outside. There is plenty of space for visitors to relax and for games to be played. A gate opens from the rear garden on to a track which leads to the cliff top and coastal path; a two minute walk away. Three cars can be parked just outside the front gate. Visitors should be aware that: this cottage is accessed via a rough stone track of one and a half miles which is not suitable for low profile cars and it is necessary to drive slowly; children need to be closely supervised at all times as although the gardens are walled and gated, they are not secure and the unfenced cliff edge is within a couple of minutes walk; the cottage is not on mains water but has a rainwater system which is stored in large underground tanks and is treated by ultra violet light. An initial supply of bottled drinking water from a nearby mains water supply is left for visitors who have any concerns.

Perfect location for some amazing coastal walks, to Chapman's Pool, Winspit and further afield. Well stocked kitchen supplies, including a fast hot plate. Cozy and warm in the winter with electric radiators. Yes, the potholes are still there. Just drive slowly and you'll be fine.

The land that time forgot. We have just had an incredible week here. No light pollution, you can't hear a single road. Land, sea and wind. The southwest coast path on your doorstep. This was a beautifully located property and we had a lovely holiday in this isolated, dark sky ,so fab for star gazing house. Nice to see Wildlife and birds. As a heads up road to house is full of potholes which after the rain was a bit difficult to miss. I would point out that house info says not to drink water from tap but this is not pointed outRead more on house description when booking so take a few bottles. Cottage is comfortable, and in a quiet and picturesque location. Well equipped. We enjoyed our third stay in this property. Compliments to the housekeeping team for their help with the midpoint clean and linen change, we were delighted with everything they did. One point to note, the internet connection is very slow, and despite there being boosterRead mores, there is connectivity on only one side of the house (kitchen side), no connection in the lounge or the bedrooms on that side of the house. If you want quiet, birds and a seaview, this is perfect. A large cottage with big rooms, upstairs carpeted, downstairs tiled floor throughout. Front and back gardens are secure and great for small children to play. The track is potholed and other comments about no low-slung cars is right but going slowly, a small 2-wheel drive car can do it. Great isolated location although, as others have said, the potholed unmade road should be allowed for. This, plus the lack of sufficient bathroom/shower for 8 people, and lack of water from the taps in the one bathroom, brings down the comfort and value for money.
