Driftwood Cottage is within a three minute walk of the beach at Brighstone on the south west coast of the Isle of Wight; a quiet beach where swimming and paddling can be enjoyed. This is An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is a particularly beautiful stretch of rural coastline. It is a delightful walking area with the nearby coastal path extending eastwards to Niton or to The Needles on the western tip of the island. The charming village centre of Brightone is a pleasant 15 minute walk inland and here there is a tea shop/bistro, a public house for meals, general stores, and a small museum and village church. From here there are some wonderful downland walks and cycle routes. Particularly attractive, is the Tennyson Trail which links The Needles with Carisbrooke Castle close to the centre of the Isle of Wight. There are a number of small coves within a short drive of the property including Freshwater, Totland and Colwell. Surfing can be enjoyed at Compton Bay and this is also a renowned area for fossils.

Driftwood is attractively situated in a small courtyard of five cottages. There are coastal or downland views from most of the rooms. On the ground floor there is a large open plan sitting room with comfortable leather sofas, a Smart flat screen television with a DVD player and feature fire place with coal effect convector fire. Patio doors open from the sitting room on to a terrace with views across fields to the nearby downs. There is a dining area with DAB radio; a fitted kitchen equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator and washing machine (a freezer is also provided); a ground floor double bedroom with downland views and a shower room with a walk in shower, basin and WC.

Stairs lead up from the sitting room to two further bedrooms - one twin room and the master double bedroom - a delightful room with French doors opening on to a small balcony with sea views and an en-suite shower room with built in shower, WC. and basin. A travel cot, highchair and stairgate can be provided. The cottage is warmed by electric heaters and WiFi is available.

Driftwood Cottage has a private terrace with wonderful views and is open to the larger gardens which have shared use. Visitors can relax and enjoy views across fields to the nearby downs. Parking is available for two cars in the drive to the side of the cottages. A car can be driven close to the rear cottage patio for ease of access at the time of arrival and departure. A bus service is within a 15-minute walk and a farm shop within a few minutes walk. A small supermarket and a variety of shops and public houses are in Freshwater; 10 to 15 minutes drive. Larger shops and supermarkets can be found in the market town of Newport ; 20 minutes drive. Nearby places to visit include The National Trust gardens of Mottistone, Blackgang Adventure Park and Yarmouth Castle. The sports centre at Freshwater has a swimming pool and fitness room, and golf can be enjoyed on the nearby Freshwater Bay Golf Club.

Driftwood cottage was as described, plenty of space for relaxing in the light and airy lounge which had lovely sofas and a nice big dining table. The fire was a welcome feature as the weather was rather cool. The kitchen was well equipped but quite small. The bedrooms were a good size and the beds comfortable. Parking area is adjacent to the properRead morety with easy access. We would definitely recommend this as a base to explore the island. Hide

Really clean and well equipped cottage. We were three generations and the downstairs bedroom and bathroom suited us (the grandparents) giving the rest of the family the upstairs. Loads of parking and nothing is too far away to visit. Plenty of seating for everyone

Within short distance of the sea shore, a five minute walk at most. The only noise we noticed was the roar of the waves breaking on the beach. Just perfect for the holiday away from the rest of the world.

Lovely walk to the village and to the beach just across the road, however the garden is not fenced off from the driveway and a very fast road. Luckily we had a screw in the ground dog tether with us and had to tie our two dogs to that whenever they were in the garden. This is the only property without a fence across the patio such a pity.

The views were lovely, the walk into the village and village pub was amazing. Cottage was nice but for us personally, it didnt work - no enclosed outside space for the dog and kids, on a busy main road. The patio also needs maintenance. The shared lawn was covered in holes so couldnt play on it. A few cleaning areas were missed, beds were uncomfortRead moreable and all of us were bitten during the night, every night. All of that though, my 4 year old was still very upset to come home. Hide

Lovely cottage in a stunning and quiet location. Very comfortable and had everything we needed. We really enjoyed our stay. Only disappointment was the garden, which was not enclosed as stated. Great cottage which was well equipped for our needs travelling with 3 generations of our family. Lovely views from all aspects of the house and a short walk to the beach. Only negatives were 5pm checkin and 9.30 checkout and could do with being a bit cleaner. Great stay and we would return.
