This picturesque cottage is attractively situated in a peaceful rural hamlet in spectacular countryside. Located in a fantastic walking area with nearby footpaths leading to woodland and to the downs above Ventnor, the cottage is also only one and a half miles from the sweeping beach of Shanklin, a small coastal town with a variety of restaurants and entertainment. The neighbouring seaside towns of Sandown and Ventnor are within an easy ten-minute drive.

Apse Manor Forge Cottage is one of two cottages which surround a beautiful courtyard with a lily pond to one side. The cottage has been rebuilt and renovated with great care to the highest standards, and is double glazed and centrally heated. The front door opens into a light and spacious open plan sitting room, with beams, a corner leather sofa, and a flat screen television with Freesat and DVD player. There is a pleasant dining area where meals can be enjoyed, and a fitted kitchenette, which is neatly hidden behind wooden doors, with stainless steel sink, refrigerator with ice compartment, gas hob and a combi microwave oven with a grill. (A conventional oven is not provided). A washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer space are available in an adjoining external utility room.

There is a newly equipped shower room with a built in shower, WC. and basin. The cottage has two bedrooms - one twin room and a good sized double bedroom with a door opening onto a small, walled patio. A travel cot and high chair can be provided. Heating and electricity are at no extra charge and Wifi internet is available. The walled garden at the rear of the cottage faces south west and enjoys sunshine for much of the day - garden furniture, an umbrella and a barbecue are provided. Visitors can also follow the path at the side of the cottage which leads up to extensive gardens, with large areas of lawns and shrubs where games such as cricket can be played. These gardens extend to five acres and are also used by the cottage owners. You may be lucky enough to see the local red squirrels which are often seen here.

Two cars can be parked in the drive at the front of the cottage and there is a locked space available for visitors wishing to bring bikes. The pond at the side of the courtyard is unfenced and children therefore need to be closely supervised. Within one mile of the cottage are a post office, shop and telephone, and there is a regular bus service half a mile away. Electric car charging is available by arrangement with the owner - charged at £35 per week or short break and payable to the owner.

Barrie & Jan were excellent hosts and were extremely helpful with places to go and when to look for the red squirrels. Our holiday was the best so far on the Isle of Wight. It was easy to get to anywhere that we wanted to go. The sofa was a bit low for my Mum to get up from easily would be the only suggestion for improvement and a little more room Read morealong work top in kitchen area. Hide
