This charming property enjoys an unrivalled beach front position on the promenade of the seaside resort of Shanklin, on the southeast coast of the Isle of Wight. Shanklin has a picture-postcard sandy beach which gently slopes into the water, making it ideal for paddling, swimming and building sandcastles. The Sea Terrace is located at the end of a no-through road at the far south end of the promenade which is the quietest and most attractive part without passing traffic. Steps ascend nearby to the main town on the cliff top and the house is only a short walk from Shanklin Old Village, with its pretty thatched cottages, public houses, restaurants and shops, plus a nearby theatre. Visitors may also choose to walk to the town via the beautiful Shanklin Chine, a natural wooded gorge close to the cottage. There is a public house which serves meals within a four-minute walk along the beach. Further back along the promenade is a choice of restaurants overlooking the sea, plus typical seaside entertainments such as themed crazy golf and slot machines. A lift which takes you to the top of the cliff is within a five-minute walk.
The Sea Terrace dates back to 1880, with open sea views across the bay from all of the main rooms. It has been furnished and equipped with care to provide accommodation of a high standard over three floors. It is centrally heated, double-glazed and WiFi is provided. On the ground floor there is an open-plan fitted kitchen with a range style cooker with a gas hob and electric oven, a microwave, a Belfast sink, dishwasher and Nespresso coffee machine; an adjoining utility area houses a large American style fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer; a lovely dining area with a large table and chairs beside windows overlooking the sea. Double doors can be opened from here to a balcony where visitors can stand to admire the view. There are also comfortable chairs here creating a social space when meals are being prepared.
Stairs lead up to the first floor where there is a sitting room with leather sofas, an armchair and a Smart TV. This room has large windows along one wall overlooking the sea, and French doors which open onto a terrace with garden furniture and a charcoal barbecue. Here, meals can be enjoyed whilst taking in the superb sea views which extend across the bay to Culver Cliffs. The garden is located beside a small cliff, care must be taken. Steps lead up from the terrace to higher ground so that further views can be enjoyed. On this floor there are also two bedrooms with open sea views - the first room has zip-and-link twin beds, which can be made up as a king-size upon request (please advise at time of booking), with an en-suite bathroom with bath, overhead shower, basin and WC and a small double bedroom with an en-suite shower room with shower cubicle, basin and WC. There is also a separate cloakroom on this floor.
A further flight of stairs leads up to the master bedroom with a super-king double bed, wardrobe, arm chair, open sea views and an en-suite bathroom with a corner bath, built in shower, bidet, basin and WC. The particular charm of this area is the fact that double doors open onto an inviting private terrace with reclining garden furniture and a swing seat. Here, it is possible to relax in the sunshine whilst watching the boats in the distance. A travel cot and high chair can be made available. There are wardrobes in all bedrooms.
Parking is available immediately outside the cottage from the start of October, through to the beginning of March. At other times cars can stop outside of the cottage to unload and then can park in the roads above the cottage on the cliff top and walk down to the cottage within a few minutes.
