This 17th century cottage is built of Island chalk and brick, and enjoys mesmerising views across nearby lakes and open countryside to Ventnor Downs. It is situated on a farm in rolling South Wight countryside. It is a marvellous walking area with footpaths that can be followed directly from the cottage in most directions. There are scenic walks along the course of the river Yar to the picturesque village of Godshill, and to the nearby village of Arreton which has a public house, farm shop and cafe for meals. More extensive walks lead to the downs and visitors can join the renowned Stenbury and Worsley Trails. There is also direct access across one of the farm fields to an extensive cycle route which provides a flat and easy route to interlink Sandown, Godshill, Newport and Cowes. The sandy beaches of Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor are within a 15-minute drive, as is the market town of Newport with its medieval castle of Carisbrooke.
Visitors are free to stroll across the fields of the farm and around the lovely lakes in the grounds. Please note that the garden of the Manor House is private. There is an open grassland area near the lakes with panoramic views where barbecues and picnics can be enjoyed. There is also a nature trail on the farm so that visitors can enjoy the wealth of wild life; this includes herons, ducks and geese on the lakes; swallows and kestrels often nest in the barns; pheasants, foxes and badgers, plus rabbits which abound. A small herd of cows is kept on the farm and there is an area for children with a small rare-breed bagot goat that will eat from the hand and rescued hens which are now free-range. Arrangements can be made for the storage of bikes.
Parlour Cottage has been converted with great care from an ancient barn, and attention has been paid to retaining its character. It has been furnished and equipped to a high standard in a traditional style. The front door opens into a light and spacious sitting room with a dining area. This room is particularly attractive with a high vaulted beamed ceiling, several windows, and French doors opening into the rear garden. It is furnished with comfortable sofas, and a television with DVD player.
An attractive staircase ascends to a galleried landing which leads to a double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom with WC. There are stunning views from the bedroom across the fields to the downs. On the ground floor there is a twin bedroom and a separate bathroom with a bath, built in shower and WC. The fitted kitchen is well-equipped with an electric cooker, ceramic hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer and large fridge freezer. The cottage is centrally heated. Heating and electricity is at no extra cost. WIFI internet is included and a wooden cot and high chair are available on request.
Parlour Cottage has a south facing courtyard-style garden with garden furniture. Cars can be parked beside the cottage and there is easy access into a larger fenced area of shared garden, where children have space to play games. Access to the farm is along a gravel lane. A public house and post office are within five minutes drive, and a regular bus service is within a 15-minute walk.
