Knighton Gorges occupies an impressive position nestled in magnificent East Wight countryside in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It has uninterrupted views across the beautiful Yar Valley to the Ventnor Downs. The house offers an oasis of peace, being a detached property with its own two acres of grounds and no neighbours. This is a haven for wild life - rabbits, pheasants and numerous other birds abound. Red squirrels and badgers may also be seen. The property dates back to the 17th century and used to form part of the buildings of the famous Manor House which occupied the site. Nothing now remains of the Manor apart from the dramatic stone pillars which stand as the gateway to the house.
Knighton Gorges is a large impressive stone property with shuttered windows giving the impression of a charming French farmhouse. The front door opens into a large hall/reception room with open stairs leading up to a galleried sitting room with television. This area faces south and offers a sunny place to relax. Like most of the main rooms in the house it enjoys beautiful views down the valley. There are three bedrooms upstairs, one double and two twin rooms. These each have en-suite facilities. One of the double bedrooms and one of the twin bedrooms have an en-suite shower room with basin and WC and the remaining double bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with bath, handheld shower over the bath and WC.
On the ground floor there are a further two bedrooms; one double and one twin room, plus a shower room with a built in shower, basin and WC.; a spacious open-plan sitting room with sofas and chairs, a large flat screen television with Freeview and a DVD player; an attractive dining area beside French doors which open into the garden; a fitted kitchen equipped with a double electric oven and hob, microwave, sink, dishwasher and fridge freezer; a separate utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer. The kitchen has a breakfast area with a large pine table and chairs. Central heating and electricity are provided without extra charge. A travel cot and high chair can be made available if required.
The cottage has extensive grounds with a fenced garden at the front of the property, and a sunny patio, garden furniture and barbecue. Gateways lead from the garden to pastures grazed by pet sheep who will eat from the hand. Four or more cars can be parked in the drive. The sandy beaches of Sandown, Shanklin and Ryde are within a ten-fifteen minute drive away. The charming village of Newchurch with a public house for meals is one and a half miles away. Knighton Gorges is in a wonderful walking area with nearby footpaths and lanes leading to beautiful downland and the lovely River Yar. Visitors are within a five-minute ride of a cycle path following the old train lines and providing a route to Sandown, Newchurch, Newport and Godshill. This is part of a network of cycle routes criss-crossing the island.
