Egmont View stands at the centre of three Grade II listed cottages built in 1706, situated between the hill villages of Kingston, Langton Matravers and Worth Matravers and amidst the rolling hills of the Isle of Purbeck. The cottage is in a spectacular walking and cycling area with footpaths and bridleways leading from the property to the famous Jurassic coastline and surrounding countryside. Along this dramatic coast which is renowned for its range of flora, fauna and bird life, lie Dancing Ledge St Aldhelms Head and Chapmans Pool, all of which are accessible from the cottage. The Purbeck Nordic Walking Centre is situated a short walk from the property and Seacombe can be reached in a twenty minute walk. The seaside resort of Swanage and historic village of Corfe with its iconic castle, are both a five-minute drive of the property, with the four mile stretch of sandy beach at Studland less than a twenty minute drive away.

The cottage has recently been restored to its former glory by an award-winning architect and boasts many characterful features including an open fire with attractive brick surround, lime washed walls and original beams. This is married with modern amenities including underfloor heating, solar panel hot water and Fibre WiFi, making for a very comfortable stay in heritage surroundings. Egmont View has flagstone floors throughout with attractive rugs. Fittings have been sourced to maintain the integrity of the property including a staircase which has been salvaged from an old ship.

The front door opens into a cosy sitting room with seating for four, comprising a two seater sofa, small armchair and window seat, along with a television with Netflix. The open fireplace provides a central focus to the room and there are views from the window over the terrace gardens to the surrounding fields beyond. The adjoining hallway leads to a bunk bedroom with full sized single beds, a small wardrobe and views across the garden. Opposite, is the cottage bathroom which is fully tiled and has a bath with over bath shower, WC and basin. The fitted kitchen is an inviting space with bi-fold doors opening out into the garden and has dining space for four, an electric oven with induction hob, refrigerator, traditional butler sink, microwave, slimline dishwasher and washer dryer. A freezer is also provided.

A door from the living room opens onto the staircase with a rope bannister on one side leading to the master bedroom. This room has twin beds, a small wardrobe and chest of drawers, as well as views across the hills to the sea with glimpses of the Isle of Wight on a clear day. Heating electricity and Fibre WiFi are available at no extra charge. Please note that due to the traditional nature of the cottage, the front entrance doorway and wooden beams inside the property are quite low.

The cottage has a pretty garden at the rear of the property which is laid to lawn and has a small terrace with a barbecue. Garden furniture is provided so that meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine whilst enjoying the wonderful views across the countryside. One car can be parked in a private parking space to the side of the cottages with a gravelled path leading directly into the garden. There is a regular bus service to Swanage and Poole within a two-minute walk. It is a three minute drive to Langton Matravers which has a public house, village shop and parish church. A 15 minute walk leads to the picturesque village of Worth Matravers, renowned for its quaint duck pond and the old fashioned charm of its public house, The Square and Compass. Nearby places to visit include the National Trust properties of Corfe Castle and Kingston Lacey, as well as the homes of Lawrence of Arabia and Thomas Hardy. Boat trips run between April and October from Swanage pier to Poole Harbour along part of the Jurassic Coast and to Brownsea Island. To mention just a few further local attractions, Swanage Steam Railway, the Blue Pool Monkey World and the Tank Museum are within a short drive of the cottage.

This cottage is in a perfect part of Dorset to allow you to explore the area either by leaving the car at the cottage and rambling around the immediate area or exploring a bit further out by car. We found the cottage to be very clean, and totally adequate for my wife and my needs. During our stay it rained a fair bit so we cannot comment on the outRead moreside space other than to say that when it stopped raining there was some lovely views and there appeared sufficient equipment for BBQs. A lovely cosy cottage with excellent views from the kitchen over the Dorset hills. Even had a bus stop nearby on both sides of the road! Very clean and had everything you would require for a comfortable stay. Peaceful and with friendly neighbours.

Would not recommend. The cottage is not as the description and in bad weather is dark and drab. Not suitable for very young children or older folk unless agile. Needs better lighting in sitting room as too dark for reading. Television doesnt work in bad weather. Requires more updating and refurbishment. It is very small and not welcoming. PositivelRead morey, it has good supply of hot water and good location. The tea and biscuits provided were lovely. Very disappointing property overall. Hide

Our daughter is tall 59 so she hit her head on the low doorways 3 times before she got the hang of ducking her head. She really hurt her head and ended up in tears. So website should stress not suitable for people over 56. Apart from the height the cottage was small & quaint and situated in a good location not far from Swanage or Corfe Castle. This cottage is not suitable for anybody over six foot. I banged my head many times. The kitchen is too small to seat and feed four people comfortably. The lounge is small and dark and the underfloor heating is patchy. The stairs up are hazardous especially at night (the toilet is downstairs) The patio is fine but the lawn(?) is awful and is the onRead morely feature of the garden. The patio furniture has been repaired many times. Noisy heat pump. Parking very dirty. Heavy traffic caused much dirt to car Hide
