Driftwood Cottage is within a three minute walk of the beach at Brighstone on the south west coast of the Isle of Wight; a quiet beach where swimming and paddling can be enjoyed. This is An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is a particularly beautiful stretch of rural coastline. It is a delightful walking area with the nearby coastal path extending eastwards to Niton or to The Needles on the western tip of the island. The charming village centre of Brightone is a pleasant 15 minute walk inland and here there is a tea shop/bistro, a public house for meals, general stores, and a small museum and village church. From here there are some wonderful downland walks and cycle routes. Particularly attractive, is the Tennyson Trail which links The Needles with Carisbrooke Castle close to the centre of the Isle of Wight. There are a number of small coves within a short drive of the property including Freshwater, Totland and Colwell. Surfing can be enjoyed at Compton Bay and this is also a renowned area for fossils.
Driftwood is attractively situated in a small courtyard of five cottages. There are coastal or downland views from most of the rooms. On the ground floor there is a large open plan sitting room with comfortable leather sofas, a Smart flat screen television with a DVD player and feature fire place with coal effect convector fire. Patio doors open from the sitting room on to a terrace with views across fields to the nearby downs. There is a dining area with DAB radio; a fitted kitchen equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator and washing machine (a freezer is also provided); a ground floor double bedroom with downland views; a family bathroom with a bath, shower over the bath, basin and WC.
Stairs lead up from the sitting room to two further bedrooms - one twin room and the master double bedroom - a delightful room with French doors opening on to a small balcony with sea views and an en-suite shower room with built in shower, WC. and basin. A travel cot, highchair, stairgate and folding bed can be provided for an additional child. The folding bed is an additional £35 per week or short break. The cottage is warmed by electric heaters and WiFi is available.
Driftwood Cottage has a private terrace with wonderful views and is open to the larger gardens which have shared use. Visitors can relax and enjoy views across fields to the nearby downs. Parking is available for two cars in the drive to the side of the cottages. A car can be driven close to the rear cottage patio for ease of access at the time of arrival and departure. A bus service is within a 15-minute walk and a farm shop within a few minutes walk. A small supermarket and a variety of shops and public houses are in Freshwater; 10 to 15 minutes drive. Larger shops and supermarkets can be found in the market town of Newport ; 20 minutes drive. Nearby places to visit include The National Trust gardens of Mottistone, Blackgang Adventure Park and Yarmouth Castle. The sports centre at Freshwater has a swimming pool and fitness room, and golf can be enjoyed on the nearby Freshwater Bay Golf Club.
