This impressive stone cottage is situated in the centre of the picturesque village of Godshill - a village renowned for its charming hill top church, tea shops, chocolate shop, public houses, restaurant and gift shops. This is also a wonderful walking area. Nearby footpaths lead through woodland and across downs to Appuldurcombe, and join the Tennyson trail which extends to the coast at St. Lawrence and Ventnor. The sandy beaches of Shanklin and Ventnor are within a ten minute drive.
Christmas Cottage is a beautiful 400 year old Grade II listed cottage which has been furnished and equipped with great sensitivity and a wonderful use of colour. Nearby, the owner has an art Studio, The Oracle Gallery. Nicola Gibbs is a professional artist and through her art workshops, inspires people of all ages. There is also a highly rated Vegan restaurant to the rear of the cottage.
The cottage provides spacious accommodation with furnishings and artefacts from around the world. It has been renovated with care to reveal ornamental stone fireplaces, ancient beams and flagstone floors. There are soft, cream fitted carpets throughout much of the cottage. On the ground floor there is a large open plan sitting room with sofas and chairs, a statement ornamental stone fireplace, flat screen television with Freeview and DVD player; a dining area; a kitchen with fitted units and a breakfast area, a gas range style cooker, microwave, Belfast sink and refrigerator (a freezer and washing machine are provided in a separate utility area); a large conservatory style room, with a further area of comfortable seating and access to the small courtyard garden, and the downstairs king-size bedroom which is accessed via a deep step up to a hallway from the conservatory.
A door opens from a small passageway to reveal a cottage style staircase leading up to three double bedrooms. The master bedroom is particularly spacious with a charming, French style bed and an en-suite shower room with a built in shower basin and WC. There is a family bathroom with a free standing Victorian style bath, basin and WC. A travel cot and high chair, and a folding bed to enable two children to sleep separately can also be provided. We regret that it is not possible to use the open fires. Wi-Fi is included.
The cottage has a small courtyard with garden furniture and a barbecue so that meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine. Two cars can be parked side by side in the shared courtyard to the rear of the cottage. Additional cars can be parked in a narrow and quiet lane within a three minute walk. There is a good bus service from Godshill to Shanklin, Ventnor and Newport. From Newport buses can be caught onwards to most parts of the island. The cottage is adjacent to a great restaurant, plus a small village shop and post office are within a two minute walk.
