Property code: OC-IC034

This impressive stone cottage is situated in the centre of the picturesque village of Godshill - a village renowned for its charming hill top church, tea shops, chocolate shop, public houses, restaurant and gift shops. This is also a wonderful walking area. Nearby footpaths lead through woodland and across downs to Appuldurcombe, and join the Tennyson trail which extends to the coast at St. Lawrence and Ventnor. The sandy beaches of Shanklin and Ventnor are within a ten minute drive.

Christmas Cottage is a beautiful 400 year old Grade II listed cottage which has been furnished and equipped with great sensitivity and a wonderful use of colour. Nearby, the owner has an art Studio, The Oracle Gallery. Nicola Gibbs is a professional artist and through her art workshops, inspires people of all ages. There is also a highly rated Vegan restaurant to the rear of the cottage.

The cottage provides spacious accommodation with furnishings and artefacts from around the world. It has been renovated with care to reveal ornamental stone fireplaces, ancient beams and flagstone floors. There are soft, cream fitted carpets throughout much of the cottage. On the ground floor there is a large open plan sitting room with sofas and chairs, a statement ornamental stone fireplace, flat screen television with Freeview and DVD player; a dining area; a kitchen with fitted units and a breakfast area, a gas range style cooker, microwave, Belfast sink and refrigerator (a freezer and washing machine are provided in a separate utility area); a large conservatory style room, with a further area of comfortable seating and access to the small courtyard garden, and the downstairs king-size bedroom which is accessed via a deep step up to a hallway from the conservatory.

A door opens from a small passageway to reveal a cottage style staircase leading up to three double bedrooms. The master bedroom is particularly spacious with a charming, French style bed and an en-suite shower room with a built in shower basin and WC. There is a family bathroom with a free standing Victorian style bath, basin and WC. A travel cot and high chair, and a folding bed to enable two children to sleep separately can also be provided. We regret that it is not possible to use the open fires. Wi-Fi is included.

The cottage has a small courtyard with garden furniture and a barbecue so that meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine. Two cars can be parked side by side in the shared courtyard to the rear of the cottage. Additional cars can be parked in a narrow and quiet lane within a three minute walk. There is a good bus service from Godshill to Shanklin, Ventnor and Newport. From Newport buses can be caught onwards to most parts of the island. The cottage is adjacent to a great restaurant, plus a small village shop and post office are within a two minute walk.

We had a lovely relaxing week in the cottage; it's very well equipped and had everything we needed. Beds were all really comfortable and we loved the quirky character and decor - my daughter spent loads of time appreciating the paintings! Nic the owner was very helpful and went out of her way to ensure we had all that we needed, even delivering a new barbecue and a beach umbrella! Would recommend. Hide

A beautiful quirky cottage. Love the decor and furniture. Beds are comfy and it was spotless. Loved the dog bowl and blankets for the dogs to go on. Parking a little tight. Best to reverse on but mind the left side of the car as gateway is at an angle. Would highly recommend this cottage.

This cottage has been tastefully restored whilst holding on to the character of its past. It is beautiful, artistic, comfortable, and spotlessly clean. I shall definitely rebook. There is everything you need for a self-catering holiday, in a charming village, definitely worth booking. Thank you so very much to the owner.

Comfortable, spacious and well appointed. Plenty to explore in the local area and on a bus route if you don't want to drive. Handy cafe/restaurant across the yard open three days a week, great breakfasts and lunches. Access to the car parking area a bit tight if you have a long estate like we had otherwise perfect.

A centrally located, charming cottage in a charming village. Christmas Cottage had all we needed for our island stay; comfy beds, clean bathrooms, cosy lounge and a kitchen with the necessary equipment to provide sustenance. There were many delightful places to visit close by - by car or reliable bus service.

The cottage was clean and well presented. some care was neede in moving around because of steps and low beams, but these are well signed. The furbishings and beds were very comfortable. It is ideally situated in Godshill, which is an excellent base for touring the island by public transport or by car.

Comfortable, spacious and well equipped. The location is great, right at the centre of the old village. Bags of character, with the upstairs particularly giving the Wow factor. The separate kitchen, dining and sitting areas work very well. We definitely recommend Christmas Cottage.

Gorgeous quirky cottage in the centre of Godshill. Ver clean. Well equipped with unexpected extras. Great location for reaching the attractions and a lovely village with a new playground for children. Only caution is the low ceilings and internal steps may be difficult for tall people and ones with mobility issues.
