Holiday Information

Acton is a charming hamlet or small village with snuggly packed stone cottages and has views down to the neighbouring seaside resort of Swanage. A rural walk runs from Acton to the beach at Swanage or, in the other direction, to the village of Worth Matravers.

To See and Do in

Walk to Dancing Ledge - The bay at Dancing Ledge is one of the main features along the Jurassic Coast and is a pleasent walk from the centre of Langton. Dancing Ledge is an attractive series of shelves of rock going down to the sea. On the lowest ledge there is a swimming pool which has been blown out of the solid rock and which is refreshed with water at every tide. Dancing ledge is popular with those walking the coastal path, climbers and those wishing to just experience this wonderous place. To get to Dancing Ledge follow the road Dumford Drove right to the end and walk along the wooded track at the end. This finishes in a small car park from where there is a footpath signposted to Dancing Ledge.

Listen to Live Music - The Ship Inn has live music on regular dates which attract a lovely mix of locals and visitors to the area. It is a great chance to dance and catch up on the local gossip. Other local pubs such as the Square and Compass at Worth Matravers and the Scott Arms at Kingston also have music nights.

Visit the Historic Church - Acton has a lot of beautiful stone buildings such as the historic church at the heart of the village. The surrounding streets also have wonderful examples of Purbeck stone built architecture.
