Tennyson Wing is beautifully situated in a lovely rural location above Alum Bay and enjoys panoramic views of the nearby downs and across fields to the sea. This is a wonderful walking area within a two minute walk of Tennyson Down and a nearby footpath leads to the coastal path. Tennyson Wing is the first floor south west wing of a large detached property with a wonderful large terrace where meals can be enjoyed. It has two bedrooms - a twin room and a double bedroom with a king size bed and en-suite shower room; family bathroom; fitted kitchen; charming sitting room and dining area. Introduction

Tennyson Wing is a two-bedroomed flat situated on the first floor of a large detached property. Tennyson Wing is located within a rural area above Alum Bay, with access to many footpaths and walks nearby. It is accessed along an unmade-up single track lane with a gravel drive. Whilst the property is not suitable for wheelchair users, it is suitable for anyone able to climb a flight of stairs.

Public transport is available from a bus stop around 300 yards from the top of the lane, as well as from the nearby town of Freshwater (around 2 miles away). The timetables for all Island buses are available on the Southern Vectis website: www.islandbuses.info

Tennyson Wing is situated in a peaceful rural location, with sea views and within excellent walking country. The centre of the town of Freshwater is around 10 minutes drive away. Freshwater has a post office, two supermarkets, a leisure centre with an indoor swimming pool, pubs, cafes, restaurants and many small local shops.

Car Parking

Tennyson Wing is situated along an unmade up single track lane around 3.5m wide, gently sloping downwards. The property is situated in a very quiet rural location.

There is parking for two cars on a gravel area to the side of the property. The gravel surface is level and flat.

Entrance to Property

There is one main entrance to the property. The main entrance is accessed by 3 stone steps up to the main entrance door. Once within the main house there is a staircase 920mm wide with 14 stairs up to the first floor.

The floor covering inside the entrance is loop pile fitted carpet (sisal type). Once inside the flat there are minimal thresholds.

Halls, Stairs, Landings, Passageways

The entrance corridor to the flat has loop pile fitted carpet (sisal type). There is a small threshold/step (<100mm high) within the corridor.
Sitting Room/Dining Area

The sitting room/ dining area is L-shaped. The sitting room area is furnished with one large 3-seater sofa (2000mm long and 450mm high) and two easy chairs. There is a
wall-mounted flat screen TV and DVD player with remote control, Freeview and WiFi. There are French doors leading out onto a large balcony area. There is a large step up (250mm high) onto the decked balcony (see below).

The dining area is equipped with 4 wooden chairs and a wooden bench (with a back) and wooden table.

Flooring is loop pile fitted carpet (sisal type).

Kitchen

The kitchen contains a range of units and equipment. The worktops are 940mm high (with no clearance underneath to the sink or worktops). There is a front opening cooker, a dishwasher, microwave, a large upright fridge-freezer (fridge above) and washing machine/tumble dryer.
Flooring is vinyl.

Bedrooms

There are two bedrooms within the flat.

Bedroom 1 has a double bed with around 500mm and 1m space respectively to either side of the bed. There is no under-bed space. Furniture in this room includes two bedside cabinets 650mm high. Flooring is loop pile fitted carpet (sisal type). This room has an en-suite shower- room attached (see below).

Bedroom 2 (twin bedroom) has two twin beds, with 1m space between the beds. The beds are moveable, with no under-bed space. Furniture in this room includes a chest
of drawers, a dressing table and a wooden chair. Flooring is loop pile fitted carpet (sisal type).

There are French doors from this room up one step onto the balcony area.

Bathrooms, Shower-rooms and Toilets

There is one main bathroom. Flooring is vinyl. There is a bath 550mm high with grab rails, an overhead shower, a wash hand basin and a toilet. The toilet is 420mm high, but has no space either side for lateral wheelchair transfer.

There is an en-suite shower room to Bedroom 1. The shower has a 260mm step up, and the shower itself is 600mm x 750mm, with a 600mm opening door. This room also has a toilet and wash hand basin. There is no space for lateral wheelchair transfer. Flooring is vinyl.

Balcony Area

There is a large wooden decked balcony area, accessed from both the Sitting Room and Bedroom 2, through double French doors. There is a table and chairs, as well as a barbecue for guests to use.

Grounds and Gardens

Guests are able to use a shared area of garden to the side of the property, which is a large lawned area.

This lovely detached house is very attractively situated, close to the cliff top above Totland Bay, on the west side of the Island. There are sea views from the balcony, bedrooms and dining room and the lighthouse at Hurst Point can be glimpsed in the distance. The sandy bay of Totland where swimming, paddling and boating can be enjoyed is only a 3 minute walk away. This is also a marvellous walking area.

It provides very attractive and comfortable facilities for four people with two bedrooms and two bath/shower rooms. The property has attractive front and rear garden areas with care having been taken to provide guests with a variety of areas for relaxation, including a cosy summerhouse. In addition, a stunning raised terrace provides the perfect sunny setting for al fresco dining.

The property has been furnished and equipped to a very high standard. It offers very attractive and comfortable accommodation which is all on one level apart from one internal step. Fenced and gated garden with parking for 2/3 cars in the drive. Large raised garden area with outside furniture so that meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine.

Visitors can walk directly from the cottage and join footpaths to the beach at Chilton Chine (2 miles).

From here the Tennyson Trail can be followed to The Needles on the western tip of the Island or inland to Carisbrooke with its medieval castle. The cottage is only 1/2 mile from the village centre with public house for meals, bistro/tea shop, excellent village shop with local produce. The quiet beaches of Brighstone Bay are also nearby.

This pretty thatched cottage, with leaded light windows, stands in beautiful countryside, only a few minutes walk from Calbourne Water Mill. The cottage was designed by John Nash as a lodge for Westover Manor and is a Grade II listed building with wonderful grounds of 3.5 acres. This is a lovely walking area with footpaths very close to the cottage leading to Newbridge, Calbourne and to the downs above Brighstone, linking with the renowned Tennyson trail to Freshwater Bay.

Tennyson Wing is a non smoking cottage. WiFi Internet is provided free of charge at Tennyson Wing. Tennyson Wing is available for weekly self catering holiday bookings from Saturday to Saturday. The normal arrival time at this holiday cottage is 14:30 and the normal departure time is 10:00. Short break weekend and midweek self catering holidays are available from 28th October 2017 to 18th December 2017, 5th January 2018 to 8th February 2018, 17th February 2018 to 22nd March 2018 and 27th October 2018 to 20th December 2018.

We had a fantastic week at Tennyson Wing. The apartment had everything we could need and more! Very clean and very comfortable. And what a view from the balcony! Only piece of advice - take slippers the rattan carpet isn't great for bare feet! Cottage Rating: 5 Stars

We have visited Tennyson Wing before and love the location. The flat is very comfortable and well equipped. Unfortunately this year the weather was not as warn as we had hoped for. Beautiful apartment, had booked the linen package, found beds made up with lovely freshly aired linen. Stylishly decorated throughout with everything and more supplied, tablets for the dishwasher etc. Milk, wine and biscuits on arrival too! The small town of Freshwater is located on the West of the Isle of Wight. The town has an inland part with shops and a seaside part called Freshwater Bay. The bay at Freshwater is known for its stunning beauty and because it makes a pleasant place to enjoy the sea and have a swim.

Freshwater has excellent access to the other coastal location on the West of the Isle of Wight and walks run along the coast in both directions. A walk to The Needles at Alum Bay is a pleasant way to see the dramatic coast. It is also possible to walk to Carisbrooke at the heart of the Island along the Tennyson Downs.

Red Lion Public House, Freshwater - The Red Lion is a traditional public house serving great food using local produce and local caught seafood. A traditional pub feel with a friendly atmosphere makes it a very enjoyable place to enjoy lunch or stop off at on a walk around the Western side of the Isle of Wight. Specific Pet Policy for Tennyson Wing

Two dogs are welcome by agreement. Please do not allow pets on the furniture or in the bedrooms. We also ask owners not to leave dogs on their own in the property and not to allow them to foul the garden. Puppies under 12 months and also dogs with incontinence problems are not permitted without specific agreement. Please ensure that your pets treatment for the prevention of fleas is up to date. Kindly bring your own dog basket. Cats accepted by agreement.
