Description: the property comprises two bedroom self-catering holiday accommodation on two floors with open plan living, dining and kitchen area and bedrooms and a bathroom above. There is a paved terrace, lawn, flowerbed and gravelled parking area. Free access is available to other areas of the farm including equine facilities, a pond, lakes and farmland.

Access: The cottage is in a completely rural area and is not served by public transport. Those arriving by motorised or self-propelled vehicles approach the property via a short stretch of unpaved farm track. Parking is available on a flat, level gravelled area immediately adjacent to the cottage.

Access to the cottage is across a lawn with paving stones. The lawn slopes gently up to the cottage from the parking area. The front door is approached either via two low steps onto the level paved terrace or via the lawn to the terrace, avoiding the steps. French doors lead to the open plan lower living, dining and kitchen area; there is one low step from the terrace to the doors.

A short flight of stairs leads from the lower area to the bedrooms and bathroom. A handrail is provided on one side. The bathroom is equipped with a toilet and shower, the latter is provided with substantial handrails. There are no toilet facilities on the ground floor.

Visitors should note that the pond and lakes adjacent to the property are unfenced, the banks are steep, often slippery and in most places the water is very deep. The lakes comprise a trout fishery and there is danger from casting if fishermen are unaware of people walking on the banks. Great care should therefore be taken and children must be supervised at all times. Horses are potentially dangerous and the cottage garden provides open access to stable area and indoor riding school. Guests should take care if visiting the equine facilities, be aware that horse owners and fishermen also have vehicular use of the farm track and ensure that children are supervised at all times.

What a delightful place to spend a holiday! Beautiful cottage surrounded by all types of wildlife. We did see a couple of Red Squirrels! Hope the goose soon has her new babies to care for. We explored the Island, enjoyed the walk into Newport, used the buses frequently and saw two shows at Shanklin Theatre. The weather was kind to us and we hope to return in the not too distant future. Thank you for the warm welcome, the flowers and other goodies.

13-20.04.18
Our first visit and definitely not our last. Beautiful cottage, countryside and farm. Wonderful stay with loads to do but just couldn’t fit it all in. See you again!

06-13.04.18
We have both enjoyed our second stay at Marvel Cottage and hoping we may be able to stay again sometime in the future. Weather has been very kind to us and we have also enjoyed the many animals and birds who live here. Our thanks to you for your warm welcome.

06/03/18 to 23/03/18
What a fab relaxing break we enjoyed in this most delightful cottage – in such a perfect rural setting – truly home from home. Regardless of 100 mm of snow followed by a few windy days we couldn’t have wishes for a more quiet setting to relax and enjoy the I.o.W.
It is so convenient to get to the four points of the I.o.W and explore with ease. Some ideas for future visits!!
Walk from Bonchurch (Ventnor) along the seafront to the Spy Glass at Ventnor – Fab lunch ready for the walk back.
Visit the Buddle Inn at Niton (great food too) and a lovely walk down to the lighthouse at St. Catherine’s Point.
Take a trip to Ventnor Botanical gardens and walk past the cricket club down the back path to Steephill Cove – truly delightful setting and a great café too.
We look forward to a return visit to Marvel Cottage for another “Marvelous” break.

12/03/18 to 16/03/18
This is a lovely Cottage. Made a great base for exploring the Island. We enjoyed seeing the pheasants and Red Squirrels. Many thanks for the lovely flowers, the wine and the cordial – and a beautiful place.

02/03/18 to 09/03/18
A lovely cottage. We had snow to start the week but the view from the cottage of the snow was beautiful. Have seen the Red squirrels and fed the birds at the door. Thoroughly enjoyable week.

03/11 to 10/11/17
A thoroughly enjoyable week here at ‘Marvel Cottage’. Very comfortable and perfectly positioned for viewing the Island. Loved to see the beautiful swans and other wildlife including the Red squirrels. Thank you Pru and Steve for the lovely flowers and wine – we will definitely return.

27/10 to 3/11/17
Lovely cottage, beautiful countryside, brilliant weather despite time of year. Have thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Intend to return (if owners permit!). Highly recommended. Thank you for the flowers they were beautiful.

4 - 11 August: Charlotte, Dan, Isabel and Alice
What an amazing cottage in a perfect location. Very clean, well looked after and stocked well with equipment. We have all had a lovely holiday. We have seen so much wildlife from the cottage it is brilliant we can just step outside and it is there. We couldn't have asked for more, we would definitely come back!

5 - 12 May: Ted and Val
A perfect holiday cottage, location so central, red squirrels and wildlife all around. We enjoyed several conversations on various subjects, help when needed and welcome bottle in fridge. Visited places in all directions and met up with family members after many years. Thank you for making all this possible. Hope to return and will make recommendatyions. The swans brought cygnets up to show us this morning, super!

28 April - 5 May: Ian and Jenny
A very comfortable base for visiting the island, with the added bonus of interesting and varied wildlife. The 'click' of the red squirrel feeding box always had us running to the window to watch them. Highly recommend 'Olivios', an Italian restaurant in Newport; 'Farmer Jacks' in Arreton for meat and veg (especially the sweet potato fries); Isle of Wight Zoo in Sandown (don't be put off by the exterior - it is a delightful place); National Nature Reserve in Newtown; Mottistone Gardens, The Duck on the Esplanade (with lake) in Ryde.

14 - 21 April: The Rays
We've had a lovely holiday here. Its been wonderful to be surrounded by so many animals - swans, red squirrels, rabbits, geese, horses and ducks. To the near the lakes too is very relaxing!

7 - 14 April: Rachel, Dan, Lucy and Adam
Booked just the day before we came and what a lovely 'lucky break'! A great cottage with everything we could need and in such a peaceful setting. Being central, we've been everywhere and done everythint from long walks to wildlife potting and hawk flying to playing the 'slots' on the seafront - a lovely time has by all and I'd thoroughly recommend Marvel Cottage and its hosts!

1 - 7 April: Rob, Maria, Lewis and Hazel
Our first visit to Marvel Cottage but what a 'doozy' - fantastic setting and great weather! THe whole family enjoyed every minute, would love to come back in the future.

24 - 31 March: Vivienne and Maurice
Another wonderful, peaceful holiday at Marvel Cottage. Comfortable and quiet, the cottage has everything needed for a relaxing break and the thoughtful gestures from Mr and Mrs Sweetman are much appreciated.

17 - 20 March: Steven, Mary and Ben
Our third visit, there will definitely be a fourth. Always a friendly welcome. The cottage is spotlessly clean, that reason along keeps us coming back. Plenty of hot water, and the comfortable beds make for a guaranteed good night's sleep. We are going to recommend Marvel Cottage to our family. Keep up the high standards.

11 - 18 March: Pip and Eve
A lovely warm welcome from Mr Sweetman, keen to make sure all was ok without being overly intrusive. A real gentleman. Beds are really comfy - that's very important to us. The cottage is really easy and the area is a brilliant location for visiting all areas of the island. We loved the evening walks around the lakes feeding the swans and ducks with seed we bought with us!
