Introduction

Our self catering apartment is on the ground floor of an historic house. We have tried to provide as much information as possible in this statement, if you have any queries please do call. We look forward to welcoming you.

Pre-Arrival

  • There is a website at www.islandcottageholidays.com
  • Bookings / enquiries can be made via email, fax or phone
  • The nearest bus stop is 250 metres from the entrance at the end of the lane.
  • Taxis are available by phoning 01983 753276 (Kabel Cars) or 01983 752784 (Rayner’s Taxis) or Norton Taxis 01983 759955.
  • There is an Island railway line between Ryde and Shanklin station.
  • The nearest RADAR toilet is at the Needles Pleasure Park at Alum Bay or at Brookside Road, off School Green Road, Freshwater.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

  • There is a parking to the front of the apartment for 4 cars.
  • Car park is levelled gravel and is found by driving in front of the building to the far side.
  • The entrance at the front has 3 steps – 8” high, 2 x 18” deep/1 x 3’ deep. The top step in front of the front door is 6’ wide. The door is 80cm wide.
  • Parking is 10 metres away from the entrance
  • The entrance is reached via a 3” high path 1 metre wide level and even.
  • Main Entrance and Public Areas - General (Internal)
  • The main front door has a Yale lock and the door is 80 cm wide. This is a fire door and is heavy.
  • Inside the front entrance is a corridor 2’5”/75 cms wide at its narrowest which leads to the apartment’s front door “Dylan”.
  • Décor is magnolia throughout with sea grass carpeting.
  • Fire alarm fitted to the building

Dylan General

  • The front door is 2’4” wide opening inwards to a corridor. It is a fire door so is heavy. There is a yale lock 80cm high.
  • Corridor is 86cm wide decreasing to 83 cms wide. There is an entry phone at approx. 4’3” height.
  • Flat is carpeted throughout with sea grass carpeting or laminated floor covering.
  • Smoke alarms fitted in the hallways.

Dining Room

  • The dining room is open plan with the kitchen. There is a 1” thresh between the kitchen and dining room.
  • There are patio doors leading onto the gravelled garden of 1m 7.5cms/42” wide. The outside access to these doors is up 3cms from the gravel to the patio and then up 1 step 13cm high and 46 cms deep, then a step up in the dining room of 20 cms.
  • Rectangular Table – legs on each end, 59cm floor to lowest point of table (underspace), 1.5 metres long, 90 cms wide and 74cm high
  • Free space between table and walls is at least 75cm all around.
  • Chairs (moveable) – 4 chairs with padded seats and no arms. There are a further 2 chairs in the bedroom & lounge.

Lounge

  • Flooring is sea grass carpet.
  • Furniture is moveable and all is non-feather.
  • One three seater sofa and two easy chairs provided both armed
  • A desk and desk chair are provided.
  • Teletext TV provided with remote control (also available are DVD, Ipod docking station, and radio). There is freeview TV and broadband. Access code is the Home hub.

There is no separate laundry but there is a standard size washer dryer, which is front loading, provided in the kitchen.

Small gravelled area to the side of the apartment with patio and wooden table and two independent benches to seat 4. There is a large grassed area at the farthest location at the back of the property accessed through the main car park. It is only the bottom area which is available. The pathway is not made up.

Tennyson Wing is the first floor south west wing of a large detached property with a wonderful large terrace where meals can be enjoyed. It has two bedrooms - a twin room and a double bedroom with a king size bed and en-suite shower room; family bathroom; fitted kitchen; charming sitting room and dining area. Sea views from most main rooms. Only a short drive from several sandy coves on the west side of the island.

From here the Tennyson Trail can be followed to The Needles on the western tip of the Island or inland to Carisbrooke with its medieval castle. The cottage is only 1/2 mile from the village centre with public house for meals, bistro/tea shop, excellent village shop with local produce. The quiet beaches of Brighstone Bay are also nearby.

It provides very attractive and comfortable facilities for four people with two bedrooms and two bath/shower rooms. The property has attractive front and rear garden areas with care having been taken to provide guests with a variety of areas for relaxation, including a cosy summerhouse. In addition, a stunning raised terrace provides the perfect sunny setting for al fresco dining.

Dylan Wing has ground floor accommodation and is a non smoking cottage. WiFi Internet is provided free of charge at Dylan Wing. Dylan Wing is available for weekly self catering holiday bookings from Saturday to Saturday. The normal arrival time at this holiday cottage is 15:00 and the normal departure time is 10:00.

I can't recommend Dylan Wing enough. The apartment itself is bright and spacious with wonderfully comfy beds. We were most impressed by all the thoughtful little extras. There were lots of good books to browse as well. Location wise, it was perfect. 100 yards to the costal path and spectacular views, and only a short walk to Alum Bay itself. The small town of Freshwater is located on the West of the Isle of Wight. The town has an inland part with shops and a seaside part called Freshwater Bay. The bay at Freshwater is known for its stunning beauty and because it makes a pleasant place to enjoy the sea and have a swim.

Freshwater has excellent access to the other coastal location on the West of the Isle of Wight and walks run along the coast in both directions. A walk to The Needles at Alum Bay is a pleasant way to see the dramatic coast. It is also possible to walk to Carisbrooke at the heart of the Island along the Tennyson Downs.

Red Lion Public House, Freshwater - The Red Lion is a traditional public house serving great food using local produce and local caught seafood. A traditional pub feel with a friendly atmosphere makes it a very enjoyable place to enjoy lunch or stop off at on a walk around the Western side of the Isle of Wight. Specific Pet Policy for Dylan Wing

One medium sized dog is welcome and there is a fenced area in the garden. Pets are not permitted on the furniture or in the bedrooms. We also ask owners not to leave dogs on their own in the cottage and not to allow them to foul the garden. Puppies and dogs with incontinence problems are not permitted without specific agreement. Please ensure that your pet's treatment for the prevention of fleas is up to date.
