This small coastal cottage stands adjacent to the coastal path in the picturesque area of Luccombe on the south east coast of the Isle of Wight. It offers a wonderful peaceful retreat for 2 people with a fenced garden, double bedroom, sitting room, fitted kitchen and separate shower room. The small seaside village of Bonchurch and the larger resort of Shanklin are both within a delightful 20 to 25 minute walk. The foot paths go through some beautiful woodland and offer views of the sea at various points. The cottage overlooks an open field and is a superb spot for watching a variety of wild life including Red Squirrels, badgers and birds. Introduction

  • Dunnose Field Cottage is a perfect little get away cottage in a peaceful rural setting. Approached via a 1/2 mile long single track driveway. lt is 5 minute drive from the coastal town of Ventnor.
  • The cottage sleeps two and is pet friendly.

Pre-Arrival

  • For full details and maps of how to reach us please see the directions section of our website. Alternatively, you can plan your journey by car or public transport using www.transportdirect.info; simply enter your postcode and ours which is P037 6RW to get directions.
  • The nearest railway station is Shanklin which is 3 miles away ( a ten minute taxi ride). Taxis are available at the station.lf you require an accessible taxi this can be booked in advance, Door to Door 077 100 84211.
  • The nearest bus stop is at the top of the lane. The surface is uneven and sloping.
  • There is a mobility centre in Regent Street Shanklin.

Key Collection, Welcome and Car Parking

  • The car park has a gravelled surface with no marked bays. The car park is about 100m from the cottage. The cottage is accessed via the coastal footpath that has an unmade and uneven surface. There are no street lights. A torch is provided under the kitchen sink.
  • The owners live on site and will greet you and provide you with the key. If you have any queries or problems please raise these at the time.

Entrance to Property

  • The front door is 78cm wide. The front of the cottage has a gravel surface and there is a gentle slope to the front door. There are two manually operated outside lights (an outside door light and flood light ).

Halls, Stairs, Landings, Passageways

  • The front door opens directly into the kitchen that has a tiled floor. There is one step up into the lounge/ dining room that is
  • 13 cm high the width of the opening is 78 cm.

Sitting Room/Lounge

  • The lounge/ dining room has a two seater sofa, 43cm in height.
  • There is a bookcase, shelving and side tables. A small dining table and two folding chairs.
  • Lighting is natural daylight and by night there are table lamps and recessed spot lights.
  • There is a flat screen television with integrated DVD player.
  • The floor is covered with a cord style carpet.

Kitchen

  • The work top height in the kitchen us 92.5 cm. There is an under counter fridge and washing machine. The oven is freestanding, with a separate grill function.
  • There are a mixture of wall and base cupboards.
  • A freezer is located in the adjacent shed.

Bedrooms and Sleeging Areas

  • The bedroom is a small room with a maximum width of 31 cm around the bed in places. The bed is a standard double, 51cm in height.
  • The doorway to the bedroom is 64cm.
  • The carpet is cord style.
  • There is natural light and by night there are side lamps and recessed spot lights.
  • A recessed wardrobe with a small chest of drawers provides storage.

Bathrooms, Shower-rooms and Toilets

  • There is one bathroom with shower cubicle, toilet and hand basin unit.
  • The doorway to the bathroom is 64cm. This is accessed from the kitchen.
  • The shower cubicle has a 25cm step into it.
  • Toilet 42 cm high.
  • Toilet height is 88cm
  • Flooring is tiled
  • Wall mounted electric towel rail.

Garden

  • The garden is on a slight incline. The surfaces are a mixture of grass and gravel.
  • Wrought iron table and chairs are provided along with deck chairs.
  • There is a raised flower bed.
  • A panelled fence, stock proof fencing and a metal gate provide the boundary structures.The garden overlooks the owner's field.

Additional Information

  • Dogs are welcome.
  • There is good contrast between walls and flooring.
  • The mobile signal is limited and Vodaphone is the only reliable network provider.

Dunnose Field Cottage has ground floor accommodation and is a non smoking cottage. WiFi Internet is provided free of charge at Dunnose Field Cottage. Dunnose Field Cottage is available for weekly self catering holiday bookings from Saturday to Saturday. The normal arrival time at this holiday cottage is 14:30 and the normal departure time is 10:00. Short break weekend and midweek self catering holidays are available from 28th October 2017 to 17th December 2017, 6th January 2018 to 8th February 2018, 17th February 2018 to 22nd March 2018 and 27th October 2018 to 20th December 2018.

Shanklin is most famous for the long beach of golden sand and historic village centre. This idyllic self catering holiday location is on the East of the Isle of Wight and has excellent access to the other beaches on the East coast. There are a number of shops and restaurants in Shanklin village or down on the seafront.

Shanklin has a number of worthy attractions including Shanklin Old Town with pretty thatched buildings and number of traditional small shops selling local produce and traditional sweets. A pleasent area of gardens is also found nearby and these can be enjoyed on the way down to the sea.

Borthwood Copse - One of the best chances to walk and see red squirrels anywhere on the Isle of Wight. Borthwood Copse is a pretty woodland at Borthwood and is well known for the abundance of wildlife. You can view Borthwood Copse on Google Maps

Local nature reserve - Alverstone Mead and the SSSI of Alverstone Marshes are within a short walk of Newchurch. Follow the cycle track towards Sandown and you will cross the reserve along the way.

Specific Pet Policy for Dunnose Field Cottage

One medium sized dog or two small dogs are welcome at Dunnose Field Cottage. Puppies and also dogs with incontinence problems are not permitted without specific agreement. Dogs should not be left on their own in the cottage unless this is specifically agreed. Please do not allow pets in the bedroom or on the furniture. Please do not allow pets to foul the garden and be aware that there are sheep and cattle in surrounding fields. The gardens are fenced but are not dog proof. There are wonderful walks directly from the property which is a adjacent to the coastal path. In this area the coastal path is not close to the cliff edge but extends through woodland to Ventnor and Shanklin. Please ensure that your pet's treatment for the prevention of fleas is up to date.
