Situated in a small courtyard in the grounds of Clatterford House – a Grade II listed country house dating back to 1756. It stands in a peaceful rural hamlet, in the beautiful valley of Bowcombe, on the outer edge of Carisbrooke. This is a marvelous walking and cycling area with footpaths and quiet lanes leading to the castle and to nearby downs to join the Worsley Trail and the Tennyson Trail which extends to The Needles on the western tip of the Isle of Wight. Additional Information

The Coach House is situated to the rear of Clatterford House and is in a courtyard setting. The courtyard is made available solely for the use of guests renting the Coach House and as such may be closed off for those with young children to provide a safe environment away from the main garden. The main garden is one acre in size and has a small pond. We keep chickens and bees (these are in their own fenced off area.) Guests are welcome to free range eggs when these are available.

This lovely 17th century cottage is built of Island chalk and brick and enjoys beautiful views across nearby lakes and open countryside to Ventnor Downs. Parlour Cottage is situated on a lovely farm in beautiful South Wight countryside. It is a marvellous walking area with footpaths that can be followed directly from the cottage in most directions. There are particularly attractive walks along the course of the river Yar; to the picturesque village of Godshill and to the nearby village of Arreton which has a public house, farm shop and cafe for meals. The cottage is excellent for cyclists as there is access to a network of cycle paths directly from the farm and arrangements can be make for the storage of bikes. The sandy beaches of Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor are all within a 15 minute drive.

Carisbrooke, Isle of Wight local attractions for a self catering holiday at Clatterford Coach House

The villages of Carisbrooke is located at the heart of the Isle of Wight and is best know for the remains of Carisbrooke Castle which sits on the hill above the village. A small shop and a post office can be found in the village as well as a couple of public houses. A footpath runs from just outside the village all the way to Alum Bay in the far West of the Island.

Walking Trails around Carisbrooke

Tennyson Trail - The Tennyson Trail starts on the edge of Carisbrooke and runs all the way along the Downs to Freshwater Bay and then up to The Needles and Alum Bay. This spectacular trail is a substantial walk but there is a bus back to Carisbrooke from Freshwater and Alum Bay. Tennyson Trail

The centre of the Isle of Wight is best known for its historic monuments and beautiful countryside. The hills in this area are great for walking and exploring and paths fan out across the Isle of Wight. Carisbrooke, Bowcombe and Blackwater are found to the South and West of Newport. These small villages and Hamlets have unique access to all areas of the Isle of Wight and the sea is always less than 20 - 25mins away by car.
