This pretty cottage is attractively situated within a pleasant ten minute walk of the sandy beach of Ventnor or the quiet cove of Steephill on the south coast of the Island. Ventnor Park is at the rear of the cottage and paths lead through these gardens to the Esplanade. These gardens also adjoin the Botanical Garden of Ventnor which is renowned for its rare plants and the mild climate. The Clock House is one of a small group of cottages which have been converted from the original stables of Steephill Manor House.

Britannias is superbly situated, within just a few steps of the beach, on the Esplanade at Ventnor a famous Victorian health resort on the south coast of the Isle of Wight. It’s the perfect location for those who want luxury seafront accommodation and as a base with everything within easy walking distance. Ventnor has a distinctive Mediterranean feel, with its mild micro climate and properties set into the hillside on the south side of St Boniface down. It has a particularly beautiful beach, good for swimming, kayaking, fishing or just paddling. Coastal boat and fishing trips can also be enjoyed from the bay. Britannias has wonderful sea views from all main rooms and a delightful 10 metre terrace so that visitors can kick back and relax with a glass of wine or maybe dine alfresco whilst overlooking the sea. It’s also the perfect spot to enjoy a spot of people watching from up high.
On the Esplanade itself there are a variety of restaurants, a wine bar and a public house with tables right next to the sea. A few minutes away is Ventnor Haven Fishery where local fishermen sell their fresh fish, lobster and crab on a daily basis which you can take home and eat. Wonderful coastal walks can be enjoyed directly from the property - westwards to the beautiful Steephill Cove and eastwards the coastal path leads to Bonchurch, Luccombe and onwards to Shanklin and Sandown Bay. A zig-zag path leads up from Ventnor Esplanade to the small town centre – with its various small shops, restaurants bowling green and botanical gardens.
The sandy beach is perfect for children and has a lifeguard on duty during the Summer, the beach has won a quality award for water purity. There is also a children’s paddling pool a few mins walk down the Esplanade where parents can enjoy a drink while letting the children play!
Britannias has been newly newly refurbished and equipped with care to provide luxury accommodation with wonderful open sea views from most of the main rooms. Bi-fold doors and windows, in the open plan living room, can be folded back making the terrace feel part of the room. The living room has a delightful sitting area with a sofa and arm chairs, flat screen television/Sky/DVD/Wii; a dining area and a well equipped fitted kitchen with an integrated electric oven and hob, dishwasher and refrigerator (a separate utility room houses the freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer). It also has a microwave and Nespresso machine with starter pods. There are three lovely bedrooms – a double bedroom with fabulous sea views and an en-suite bathroom with a bath, basin and WC; a twin bedroom with sea views and an en-suite shower room with built in shower, basin and WC; a spacious single bedroom with side sea view plus a family bathroom with a bath, overhead shower, basin and WC. Please note that from March 2018, the main bathroom will have been updated to instead provide a walk-in shower room with basin and WC. All bathrooms also include luxury complimentary toiletries and waffle spa towels. Travel cot/high chair can be made available. Unlimited WiFi, central heating and electricity are provided without extra charge. (Visitors with mobility issues should be aware that although the accommodation is all on one level inside, 8 steps lead up to the front door).
Britannias south facing terrace is a superb feature of the property - a delightful place for visitors to relax whilst enjoying the wonderful sea views. Outdoor seating and barbecue are provided for alfresco meals in the sunshine plus an electric retractable awning for shade during hot weather. Free car parking is available on the Esplanade from November to March. Outside of this period a complimentary parking ticket is provided for one car in the car park - less than a 1 minute walk away. A bus service, with a 10 minute walk, links Ventnor with Newport, Shanklin and onwards to most parts of the island plus easy links via a train service from Shanklin to Ryde with fast hover craft and catamaran services to the mainland with interlinking train services to London.
Please note that the premises above Britannias run spa treatments during the afternoon in the spring and summer. Treatments during your stay can be booked through The Cabin at www.thecabin-ventnor.co.uk however due to popularity we recommend booking in advance of your holiday.
Britannias is a non smoking cottage. WiFi Internet is provided free of charge at Britannias. Britannias is available for weekly self catering holiday bookings from Friday to Friday. The normal arrival time at this holiday cottage is 15:00 and the normal departure time is 10:00. Short break weekend and midweek self catering holidays are available from 13th April 2018 to 24th May 2018, 1st June 2018 to 19th July 2018, 31st August 2018 to 18th October 2018 and 26th October 2018 to 20th December 2018.
