This attractive property is situated in the grounds of Brook Lodge in beautiful South Isle of Wight countryside on the outskirts of the rural village of Whitwell. It is located on the south east side of the island within a 5 minute drive of the beach. This is a wonderful walking and cycling area with footpaths leading from the cottage across the farm and joining a network of routes including the renowned Stenbury Trail which links Ventnor with the central market town of Newport and its dramatic castle of Carisbrooke. It is situated in the attractive courtyard and has marvellous open views from the rear across the fields to the downs. Stag Cottage is in one of the loveliest parts of the Island lying at the foot of Appuldurcombe Down and above the picturesque village of Godshill in ‘An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'. Godshill can be reached by taking a pleasant stroll through the beech copse and across the fields. The village has a variety of tea shops and restaurants as well as two public houses.

This lovely thatched cottage is situated close to the centre of the small rural village of Whitwell on the south east side of the island. Here there is a good public house for meals, and a lovely church. This is a wonderful walking area with a network of footpaths and trails within a few minutes walk of the cottage. These paths and bridleways extend across nearby downs and to the coast. The cottage is within a 5 minute drive of the coast where there are small attractive coves, botanical gardens and also the seaside resort of Ventnor. Here there is a lovely beach which is good for paddling, swimming and fishing. It has an attractive esplanade with several places to eat and small boats come in with fresh fish which is sold on the quay. The larger sandy beaches of Shanklin and Sandown are within a 10 to 15 minute drive.
The Barn Whitwell is a lovely stone cottage which is semi detached. It dates back to the 17th century and is Grade II listed. It has been furnished and equipped with care to provide very attractive accommodation for 6 people in 4 bedrooms. A number of original features have been retained – including attractive beamed ceilings, a flagstone floor in the kitchen, lovely wooden floors with rugs upstairs. On the ground floor there is a tiled bathroom with a bath, hand shower, basin and WC; a fitted kitchen equipped with an electric cooker, electric hob, microwave, refrigerator with ice box, washing machine and a wonderful old pine dresser; a pleasant dining area with a pine table and chairs; an attractive sitting room, with a French door opening into the garden, with sofas and chairs, television/DVD. Stairs wind up from here to four charming bedrooms – two lovely double rooms and two pretty single rooms plus a shower room with a built in shower, basin and WC. Storage heating and electricity provided without extra charge. Telephone for incoming calls plus emergency outgoing calls. A travel cot and high chair can be provided if required
The cottage has a delightful garden with a large lawn and a garden room where visitors can relax. Garden furniture is provided so that meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine. The garden is fenced and gated but visitors with young children should be aware that there is a stream just beyond the fenced area. One-two cars can be parked to the side of the cottage. Public house within 5 minutes walk. Good general stores at the nearby village of Niton; small supermarket and a variety of shops in Ventnor.

The normal arrival time at this holiday cottage is 15:00 and the normal departure time is 10:00. The cottage is on a busy road which caused some difficulty. There should be central heating fitted as the electric heaters are a fire hazard. The shower is really really small and not suitable for a family. Other than that its a lovely cottage and we had a nice time! Cottage Rating: 3 Stars

The South of the Isle of Wight is a wonderful mix of pretty beaches and dramatic coastal landscape. The sand and shingle beach at Ventnor is one of the more popular holiday locations but hidden gems such as Bonchurch and Steephill Cove are really worth a visit too.
The coastal path around the South Coast of the Isle of Wight is a particularly beautiful stretch to explore and passes a number of attractive sites which include Steephill Cove, Orchard Bay and St Catherine's Light House at Niton Undercliff. Some of this area has been prone to erosion so you must stick to the footpath and take heed of diversions.
