Beautiful cottage, enjoying an idyllic streamside location in the pretty village of Calbourne, offering attractive period accommodation for four guests, and boasting a spacious private garden.

This cottage is beautifully situated in Winkle Street; renowned for being one of the prettiest spots on the island, boasting traditional stone cottages overlooking the Caul Bourne stream with its wild flowers and clear water. This is in a wonderful walking area with footpaths leading directly from Winkle Street across fields to nearby woodland and downs. The south west coast of the Isle of Wight, with its golden bays and beaches is within a 10 to 15 minute drive. The market town of Newport and the medieval castle of Carisbrooke are within a similar distance. The cottage is also close to Newtown Estuary - a National Nature Reserve which is home to countless wildfowl and rare wading birds.

Winkle Street Cottage is built of Island stone and is over 300 years old. It is comprised of two cottages which were joined many years ago to provide one spacious property. Where possible, original features have been retained and these include the pretty windows, inglenook fireplace and characterful old beams. There are spectacular views from all of the rooms of the stream and cottage garden, with fields beyond. The cottage is furnished in a traditional style. It has been equipped with care to provide attractive and comfortable accommodation for four people in two bedrooms.

On the ground floor there is a fitted kitchen equipped with a double oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and fridge freezer. There is a spacious open-plan sitting room with an inglenook fireplace and wood burning stove - a delightful place to relax in cooler weather. This room has a sumptuous sofa and chairs, a television/Freeview/DVD/video player and there is a dining area which is a beautiful spot when the sunshine streams through the open doorway.

Upstairs there are two bedrooms; one double room and a spacious twin room. There is also a tiled bathroom with a bath, built in shower, basin and W.C. A travel cot and high chair can be provided.. The cottage has an electric thermostatically controlled heating system. Heating and electricity is at no extra charge. A pay telephone and WiFi internet is available.

The cottage has a large, private and fenced garden which is immediately across the lane and is reached via a bridge across the stream. Here, garden furniture is available so that meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine or beneath a wonderful weeping willow tree. There is an extensive area of lawn where visitors can relax and children can play games. Car access to Winkle Street is restricted to residents, so there is very little passing traffic. A parking space is available close to the cottage. A public house is within a five-minute walk, and the nearest shops are within ten minutes drive.

Dogs fees are charged per dog at £20.00 for up to 7 nights, £40.00 for up to 14 nights and an additional £20.00 for every week or part week thereafter.

A lovely, good sized and well laid out cottage in a perfect position, walking distance from the local pub (The Sun Inn) and church and a short drive to Brighstone with its shops, and to the coast. Everything provided one could wish for - a really lovely and relaxing stay.

We found Winkle Street Cottage very welcoming, everything was in really lovely order and could not be faulted. The situation of the cottage in Winkle Street was very picturesque even though we did not have good weather. We would heartily recommend it.

The cottage was very charming and cozy! Gorgeous setting and close to a friendly pub. I loved the old graffiti rubbing from the fireplace dating back to 1739... we would highly recommend.

This must be one of the most picturesque locations to stay on the island, very peaceful and a great central location to get to see the rest of the island. A real home from home cottage and the owner made us feel very welcome.

Beautiful quaint cottage in a peaceful location. A wonderful week spent here enjoying all the Isle of Wight has to offer. Two families of ducks visited us daily and plenty of wildlife along the stream outside the cottage to watch. Would stay here again.
