This lovely thatched stone cottage dates back to 1780 and is situated on the west side of the island within a ten-minute walk of the sea, and within a 20-minute walk of the centre of the coastal town of Yarmouth; a port renowned for sailing. Yarmouth has a variety of shops, public houses, tea shops and restaurants. The sandy coves of Totland and Colwell Bay are only a few minutes drive away. This is a wonderful walking area, within a ten-minute stroll of the sea. Visitors can join the coastal path which links Yarmouth with the Needles and Tennyson Down - from which there are panoramic views across the Solent. There is also the nearby Freshwater Way, a scenic walk across fields to the old part of Freshwater where there is a picturesque church, a farm shop, a great public house for meals and an abundance of bird life around the River Yar.
Well Cottage has in recent years, been sympathetically and skilfully extended to provide attractive, light and spacious accommodation for nine to ten people in five bedrooms with three bath/shower rooms, plus a ground floor W.C. and two sitting rooms. The cottage has been furnished and equipped to a high standard and is centrally heated. On the ground floor there is an open-plan fitted kitchen with granite work tops, a range style gas cooker and hob, microwave, refrigerator, freezer, sink and dishwasher; slate floor and a glass floor area through which the original well, from which the cottage takes its name can be seen. This room also has a dining area where meals can be enjoyed. A washing machine, tumble dryer and additional fridge freezer is in a separate utility area . These is a spacious sitting room with comfortable sofas, a large flat screen television with Freesat and DVD player; a second sitting room with a sofa, arm chairs, television with Freeview and video player, window seat and an inglenook fireplace; a small study area; a ground floor single bedroom; a cloakroom with a basin and W.C.
Stairs lead up to four bedrooms; a twin room and three double rooms (one with a king-size bed) - two of these have en-suite shower rooms equipped with built in showers, basins and W.C.s. There is also a family bathroom with a bath, hand shower, basin and W.C. Heating and electricity provided at no extra charge. A folding bed is available to enable two children to sleep separately. A travel cot and high chair are available if required, along with WiFi internet. (Open fires are not possible)
Well cottage has a secluded, enclosed and paved courtyard-style garden at the rear with a table, chairs and parasol. There is a further area of garden at the side of the property with a small patio and parking for three cars. The cottage is on the road linking Yarmouth to Alum Bay with a bus service a few minutes walk away. A public house and general store is a 15-minute walk.
