Single-storey property offering attractive accommodation for four guests, boasting beautifully designed contemporary-style gardens, located just one mile from the Isle of Wight’s south coast.

Wagtails is situated in a quiet unmade country lane on the outskirts of the pretty village of Brighstone, on the south-west side of the Island. This picturesque coastal village with its 12th century church and thatched cottages is well served by local amenities including a general store/post office, newsagent, library/museum and a public house which offers meals throughout the day and evening. This part of the Island is renowned for its excellent cycling and walking with plenty of public footpaths and bridleways within a short walk of the property, including the Tennyson Trail which extends from The Needles on the western tip of the Island to Carisbrooke on the outskirts of the county town of Newport. The Isle of Wight Coastal Path and the beach at Brighstone Bay are also within easy reach of the property (approximately one mile), whilst the many coves along this stretch of coastline enable visitors to enjoy swimming, fishing and paddling. In addition, one of the Islands best kept secrets at nearby Compton Bay offers two miles of contrasting golden and dark sands with the opportunity to bodyboard and surf. The area is also renowned for its fossils.

This charming, detached bungalow has recently been refurbished to a high standard with meticulous attention to detail. It provides attractive and comfortable facilities for four people, with two bedrooms and two bath/shower rooms. The accommodation comprises a dining area in a conservatory style room with patio doors opening into the garden; a well-equipped fitted kitchen with an electric cooker and hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and fridge freezer; a sitting room with a large bay window overlooking the front garden, a wood burning stove, two comfortable sofas, wall mounted LCD television with Blu-ray player and surround sound speaker system; and a grand piano - a prized possession of the cottage owners which can be made available to a visiting pianist.

There is a beautiful double bedroom containing fitted wardrobes, French doors opening out to the rear terrace and a superb en-suite with a walk-in shower, basin and WC. The second twin bedroom also enjoys access to the rear garden area and is complemented by a luxurious, classical style bathroom consisting of a roll top bath, overhead shower, bidet, basin and WC. Storage, heating, electricity and Sky+ HD are all included at no additional charge, whilst a travel cot and high chair can be provided upon request.

The property also benefits from attractive front and rear garden areas with a variety of spots for relaxation including a cosy summerhouse which is perfect for reading or just quiet contemplation. In addition, a stunning raised terrace reached by steps provides the perfect sunny setting for al fresco dining, enjoying the breath-taking sunsets or simply stargazing into the nights dark skies which this part of the Island is renowned for. The rear garden area which can be accessed from both bedrooms, provides a secluded and contemporary space where guests can sit and enjoy the cushioned rattan sofas and swing seat. This area is fenced and gated. The garage and driveway are available for the parking of two small/medium sized family cars. Please note, that 5 steps lead from the drive up to the front of the bungalow, and there are several internal steps between rooms once inside. A rural bus service is available nearby, whilst the village is within a 15-minute walk.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Set in the most picturesque part of the island with stunning views just a short walk up the lane.Plenty of walks for dogs.Very peaceful setting.Would definitely book again.

This was our second visit to the island & we 'discovered' Brighstone last year. The cottage is ideal for a short walk to the adequate village shops & also for a variety of walks. Outside seating was well catered for & on a wet day a large CD collection was available.

Beautiful cottage, lovely furnished and decorated, very spacoius and comfortable. It has everything you could need and much more. A bottle of bubbly and some essentials on arrival are very nice touch. Beautiful views and lovely area but bit remote so a car is a must or get ready for lots of walking.

We have had a wonderful week here. The cottage is excellent, one of the best we have stayed in, has everything you can think of and more, quiet comfortable and great location. The dog loved exploring the garden and all the lookout places (cos she nosey) especially the top deck. Will definitely be back.

Our second visit to Wagtails, it really is a lovely cottage. We've done plenty of walking in the glorious weather. Ventnor Botanic Gardens are well worth a visit also Mottistone Gardens (just down the road). Thanks to Hazel for her warm welcome and the care taken to care for the property.

House and facilities are excellent - the best we have ever encountered - and with an average between us of 57 years experience that's saying something! The amazing decor and subtle textiles scattered throughout the cottage and the choice of outside areas for relaxation added to the feeling that here was a true home from home. To include the "officeRead more" as an area for us to utilise was quite remarkable - as were the contents. However, for one of our party in particular, the generous permission to play the Grand Piano was the icing on an exceptional cottage cake! Thanks to Hazel's cheerful initial help we had no problems regarding the cottage and its contents, but parking the car was a daily hair-raising experience! Friendly villagers and shopkeepers also added to the warmth of our welcome. As for eating out, our best meal was at The Crown, but that's not to say the other places were unsatisfactory. If we ever return to the Isle Of Wight it will be to "Wagtails" - an absolute delight! Hide

Had a lovely week at Wagtails - really comfortable and clean cottage. Very well equipped. A short drive to the most beautiful coastline on the island. Our car was a bit big for onsite parking but had no problem parking on the road nearby.

Wagtails is perfect.Hazel was fantastic and VERY helpful. We had no problems booking with Island Cottage Holidays and it was amazing booking the ferry with them as we saved around 100, I loved it so much I had a few tears when the ferry left the island coming home!

Wagtails is a great place to stay - comfortable, well equipped and spotlessly clean. It's in a quiet spot, has excellent outdoor seating areas and there's a good village shop nearby. Hazel's friendly meet and greet was much appreciated. Definitely a 5 star holiday home.
