Grade II listed thatched cottage offering pretty, period-style accommodation for up to seven guests, located in the historic village of Carisbrooke, within short walking distance of the village’s castle.

This picture-postcard Grade II listed thatched cottage dates back to 1676 and is attractively situated at the end of a quiet lane, with a lovely ford and footpath leading to the nearby mediaeval castle of Carisbrooke. The cottage is located in the oldest part of Carisbrooke village which is a conservation area, lying within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The castle is only five minutes walk away and can be glimpsed from the garden and main bedrooms. This is a wonderful walking area as within five minutes walk of the cottage, visitors can join the famous Tennyson Trail which follows the downs westerly towards The Needles. A popular Italian restaurant, family public house for meals and a local shop are all within three minutes walk. The market town of Newport with its variety of shops and restaurants is within a 20-minute stroll. The sandy beaches of the seaside towns of Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor are within a 15 - 20 minute drive.

Virginia Cottage, favoured by local artists and featured in postcards and books from English Heritage, has been furnished and equipped to a high standard. The charming thatched porch opens into a sitting room with large comfortable sofas, a real gas flame fire, hi-fi system and wide screen smart television with Freeview and DVD player. There is a well-equipped fitted kitchen with oak units and granite tops, electric double oven and hob, combination microwave, dishwasher, fridge and freezer, plus a dining area overlooking the garden; a second sitting room into which the dining table can be moved to provide a separate dining area; a utility room with a washer-dryer and a shower room with a built in shower basin and W.C.

Stairs lead up to two double bedrooms, one of which has a king-size four poster bed, plus a bathroom with a bath, hand shower, overhead shower, basin and W.C. Additional stairs lead up to the second floor where there is a twin bedroom accessed through a single bedroom with digital television and DVD player; these rooms prove popular as a den for children.

A great selection of DVDs, videos, books, children's games and stair gates are provided. Free WiFi internet is available. A travel cot and high chair can be provided. The cottage is centrally heated, and the electricity and heating are provided at no extra charge. There is a pretty, south facing fenced garden enjoying sun virtually all day with garden furniture and a barbecue. One large or two small cars can be parked in the drive at the side of the cottage. Buses to many parts of the Island are within three minutes walk.

Virginia Cottage felt like home as soon as we walked in. Mattresses were very comfortable. The garden was a bonus - as was the nearby ford for dabbling feet after completing the coastal path! Chocs and wine appreciated on arrival. Would love to return to such a relaxing cottage.
