One of two cottages on a farm within the attractive rural hamlet of Alverstone. The property is less than three miles from the beach, and is excellently located for exploring the Island.

Two Mead Cottage is one of a pair of cottages which stand in the attractive rural hamlet of Alverstone, and is less than three miles from the sandy beaches of Sandown on the east coast of the Island. The long stretch of sand at Yaverland beach is also only a ten-minute drive away. The cottage is located on a 12 acre farm which is home to horses, cows and free range chickens. The farm is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and has a large pond which attracts ducks, moorhens and the occasional heron. This is a wonderful walking area with footpaths leading up on to the downs and towards the coast. There are also water meadows in the village with hides for bird and red squirrel watching, and ponds for fishing. The village of Newchurch is within a 25-minute walk and here, there is a pleasant public house for meals. A great cycle track also runs through Alverstone, giving access to large parts of the island by following the old railway tracks which were used early in the 20th century.

Mead Cottage has been converted from a barn and provides comfortable accommodation for four people in two bedrooms. The cottage has underfloor heating beneath a tiled floor, with panel heaters upstairs and the hot water is solar heated. There is a well-equipped fitted kitchen with an electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator with freezer section. A washing machine and tumble dryer are also provided in the cottage, and there is access to a freezer in an outbuilding beside the cottages. There is a spacious open-plan sitting room which extends across the width of the cottage and is a bright room with patio doors opening into the pretty courtyard garden. The sitting room is furnished with a sumptuous sofa and chairs, plus Smart TV. A wood burning stove provides a central focus for the room in colder weather. There is a pleasant dining area beside the window. A wet room is also on the ground floor with a shower, basin and W.C.

Upstairs, there are two attractive bedrooms which enjoy rural views; one spacious double room and a compact twin bedroom. There is a bathroom with a bath, overhead shower, basin and W.C. A travel cot and high chair are available. Heating, domestic electricity and WIFI are included without extra charge.

The cottage has a private courtyard-style garden which is fenced and gated ,and from which there is an attractive view over paddocks to the pond. Garden furniture and a barbecue are provided so that meals can be enjoyed outside. Parking is to the rear of the cottage and there is space to store bicycles. The Alverstone Marshes (Triple SSI - Site of Scientific Interest) with abundant wildlife adjoins the farm. Nearby places to visit include Robin Hill Adventure Park, Sandown Zoo, The Garlic Farm and Havenstreet Steam Railway.

Just beautiful! Practical, comfortable and in a location to die for. Our walks in the local area were amazing and considering we stayed at the height of summer we felt we were in a different world from the busier parts of the island. Owner was wonderful and an absolute treasure. We would stay again in a heartbeat!

Excellent property, thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would choose again. Had two large dogs with us and they were safe to play in the garden and roam around downstairs. Plenty of space for 4 adults and 2 dogs to enjoy wet and dry days :)

The cottage is very well equipped and comfortable and the owners very helpful. There was only the two of us so plenty of space. Situated in a picturesque position with several good walks nearby. Easy access to the rest of the island and its varied attractions. Would definitely like to go back next year.
