Stay in a wing of this gorgeous ‘Cottage Ornee’ style house, which boasts sea views and several acres of garden and lawns. Perfectly situated for exploring the Island.

Puckaster House is beautifully situated - surrounded by its own six acres of garden and with lovely lawns going down towards the sea. Visitors have the rare opportunity to stay in a wing of this beautiful Cottage Ornee style house. Prince Philip stayed at Puckaster house on several occasions when he was learning to sail. Princess Elizabeth is also reputed to have visited. The house is approached by a long driveway and is within the village of Niton Undercliff on the south coast of the Isle of Wight. Sea views can be glimpsed from the bedrooms of the wing and there are extensive sea views from the larger gardens.

The small cove of Castle Haven is within a ten-minute walk, as is St Catherine's lighthouse. This is a wonderful walking area with one of the most beautiful and dramatic parts of the coastal path extending from here to The Needles on the western tip of the island, and then on to the bays of Totland and Colwell. The sandy beach of the small resort of Ventnor is within a 15 to 20-minute drive, as are a variety of small coves on the west side of the island.

Puckaster Wing has its own private entrance and provides charming accommodation for four people. The property has been decorated and furnished with care. Original features have been retained where possible and the entrance hall has a lovely flagstone floor. On the ground floor there is: an attractive sitting room with comfortable sofas, flat screen television with Freeview and DVD player, and feature fire place; a cloakroom with W.C. and basin; a fitted kitchen and dining area. The kitchen is equipped with electric cooker and hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer and washing machine.

Upstairs there are two spacious bedrooms - one double and one twin room (travel cot/high chair can also be provided); a bathroom with a small bath and overhead shower, basin and W.C. Central heating and electricity are provided free of charge. Please be aware that the open fire cannot be used.

There is a pretty walled courtyard beside the cottage with garden furniture so that meals can be enjoyed outside. Visitors can also follow a path through the grounds to secluded areas of garden and a place where children can play games. Parking for one car. Public transport is within ten minutes walk. The famous Buddle Inn is within a five-minute walk, and within a 15-minute walk there are general stores, a post office, hardware shop, chemist, library and doctors, plus a second public house for meals. Visitors need to be aware that there are two ponds in the gardens and so children do need to be closely supervised at all times. If you suffer from allergies, please be aware that there is a resident cat at Puckaster House which does have access through the hallway of Puckaster Wing.

Please note there is a refundable £150 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

Cottage full of character and in beautiful setting. Comfortable beds. Ideal location for exploring southern part of the island with gorgeous walks nearby. Parking only for one car so we had to park the other car some way from the house which, while not a problem for us, could be for others. Bit chilly in the evening as the heating did not come on.

We loved staying in Puckaster Wing. The house and grounds were lovely and Niton Undercliff was a great base for exploring that part of the Isle of White.

Puckaster Wing is a quiet location and ideal for exploring this area of the island. The beautiful gardens, which we were allowed to use, was a bonus especially as we had sunny warm weather.

A spacious and well-appointed cottage, very quiet at night and where one enjoys seclusion and comfort. Nearest sandy beach about 20 minutes by car, but everything else on the island - and there is a lot to do and see - is also never more than half an hour away.
