This charming chocolate box cottage occupies a delightful position overlooking the village green in the lovely village of St Helens.

This Grade II listed thatched cottage dates back more than three hundred years and has been owned by the same family for generations. It is a character cottage which has retained many original features. It occupies an attractive central position in the coastal resort of St Helens, overlooking the village green where cricket is sometimes played. St. Helens carnival, sports and fair is also centred round the green each August Bank Holiday weekend. The Poplars is a ten minutes walk from a sandy beach where visitors can enjoy swimming and paddling. St Helens is famous for the 12th Century church tower which adorns the shoreline. Nearby is a large National Trust area which commands some of the loveliest views on the Island. The neighbouring seaside village of Bembridge can be reached by taking an interesting 30-minute stroll from the cottage around the harbour. The larger seaside towns of Ryde and Sandown are only a short drive away.

This is a self-contained property comprising the larger part of a detached stone cottage. (The owners use the smaller adjoining part of The Poplars as a retreat and when visiting they have access through the garden to the shed and top gate). All the main rooms are south facing and enjoy views across the village green to the downs beyond. The cottage has been furnished with care in a traditional style. Upstairs, there are two pretty bedrooms - one double and one twin room (folding bed, travel cot and high chair available). It has a bathroom with a bath and an electric shower over on the ground floor.

There is a comfortable sitting room for relaxing with a sofa, two arm chairs, log effect electric fire, a flat screen television with Freeview and DVD player; a kitchen with fitted units and a pleasant dining area by the window. An electric cooker, microwave, refrigerator, freezer and washing machine are provided. Night storage heaters keep the cottage warm during the colder months and convector heaters are available for guests to use in the summer. Heating and electricity are at no extra charge. Wifi internet is provided

There is a lovely fenced garden both at the front and rear of the cottage, and an attractive patio with garden furniture so that meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine. (Please be aware that barbecues are not permitted in the garden because of the thatched roof). Cars can be parked in the road opposite the cottage when space permits. The car park, general stores, public house, two good restaurants, telephone and public transport are within two to three minutes walk.

This was our 3rd stay at this lovely cottage, the prettiest cottage in St. Helens. The cottage has such a pretty rear garden and is on the village green, ideal for dog owners. We love the area, and the walks, in particular the walk down the hill to the sea, along the Duver, over the harbour wall, along to Bembridge and then either a walk or bus bacRead morek. Hide

The cottage and its garden have an excellent location and is an enjoyable walk to the beach. The garden is well fenced a bonus for us dog owners. The bed and pillows wrre rather firm but tastes do vary. We did missed our dishwasher and were disappointed not to have a welcome pack on arrival but of course these are not essential. The Vine Pub nearbyRead more is friendly and serves a very good range of food and the village shop also nearby is well stocked. Hide

The cottage is in an ideal location. 10 min walk to the beach, with both a pub and a convenience shop within stone throws away. The cottage has a large enclosed garden at the rear, perfect if you have a dog. The cottage has a modern, well equipped kitchen. A beautiful cottage with a great garden to relax in. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need. It is in a great position in a lovely village ,opposite the village green/cricket pitch with a shop a few doors away in one direction and a friendly pub that serves good food in the other direction.

Lovely cottage, beautiful garden. A 1 min walk to the pub, 2 min walk to the shop and 15 min walk to the beach. We had a fabulous week. Our only regret was not booking early enough for the 2 restaurants in the village, both of which look lovely. We called 3 days ahead and they were both fully booked.

The cottage is comfortable and clean. The garden is beautiful; filled with traditional old English country flowers. The downside is that it is on a very busy road and parking was an issue! The noisy traffic, including regular buses and lorries, woke us up early everyday!

Poplars cottage us beautiful, comfy, warm and cosy and perfectly located on a peaceful village green, 6 doors up from a really lovely village pub. It has amazing views across to Culver Down. We had a wonderful week here and hope to be back.
