A haven for keen walkers and cyclists, this attractive cottage offers the perfect countryside retreat close to the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline.

Swift Cottage is attractively situated in the quaint village of Langton Matravers, amidst the rolling countryside of the Isle of Purbeck. This is a wonderful walking and cycling area with footpaths and bridleways leading from close to the cottage to the coastal path which leads eastwards to Swanage, and westwards to the picturesque coastal villages of Worth Matravers, Kimmeridge and Lulworth. This nearby dramatic coastline is part of the World Heritage Jurassic Coastline. Visitors also have direct access across surrounding farmland to nearby woodland, and can follow footpaths along the valley to the pretty village of Corfe Castle with its castle ruins, thatched cottages, teashops and steam railway. Langton Matravers retains a real community atmosphere with a beautiful church, its own village shop and public house. The sandy beach, shops and amusements of Swanage are less than a five-minute drive away.

This traditional stone cottage stands in a peaceful gravel lane which leads to six or seven properties. Swift Cottage is at the centre of a small terrace, and from the top floor of the property views can be enjoyed across the village to the downs and the sea at Swanage. The cottage has been renovated to provide comfortable accommodation for six plus a child in three bedrooms. It is centrally heated and been furnished and equipped with care. On the ground floor there is a spacious open-plan kitchen and dining area, with a Purbeck stone tiled floor and under-floor heating. The charming dining area is beside a pretty window seat overlooking the garden; the kitchen is equipped with fitted oak units, a large range-style cooker with a gas hob and electric oven, a microwave, dishwasher, fridge freezer and ceramic sink. There is a similarly well-equipped utility area with an additional sink and washing machine. There is a cloak room with a WC and basin, plus a separate sitting room with a large sofa and chairs, a wood burning stove, and flat screen television with Freeview and a DVD player.

Stairs lead up to a spacious double bedroom with views across the garden and en-suite shower room with a built in shower, basin and WC; a twin bedroom and a family bathroom with a bath, overhead shower, basin and WC. Further stairs lead up to a third floor where there is a large twin bedroom which extends across the width of the cottage. It is from here that there are stunning views down the valley to the sea. Central heating and electricity are provided without extra charge. A folding bed can be provided for an additional child by agreement, for which there is a charge of £30.

The cottage has a beautiful fenced garden. A door opens from the kitchen onto a patio area with garden furniture, and a small number of steps lead up to a garden area where visitors can relax in the sunshine. A number of birds can be seen in the garden and there are boxes for swifts in the upper level of the cottage. There is a private parking space for one car opposite the cottage. Within a few minutes walk there is an hourly bus service to Swanage, Corfe Castle, Wareham and Poole. Nearby places to visit include Swanage Steam Railway, the ancient remains of Corfe Castle and the National Trust property of Kingston Lacy. Boating can be enjoyed on Wareham River and Swanage is renowned for its fishing trips and diving centre. A public house and village shop are within five minutes walk. Larger parties may be interested to know that the adjoining Willow Cottage can be rented in combination with Swift cottage to sleep an additional five or six people. An extension to the dining table is available in Swift Cottage to enable 12 people to eat together.

The cottage is in a lovely position with a number of fantastic views from the upper floor windows including over the lovely garden. The generously sized kitchen is a great place for the family to relax after roaming around this beautiful part of Dorset. Lots of things to see and do down here, and I would be very keen to return.
