Nestled in the grounds of a large house on the outskirts of Worth Matravers, this charming cottage offers a peaceful hideaway in the stunning Dorset countryside.

This lovely stone cottage is full of character. In centuries past it was a small stone sanctuary with spring water for priests making the journey from St Aldhelm's Head to Swanage along the Priests Way. It now stands in the grounds of a lovely large Purbeck stone house on the edge of Worth Matravers. Stone Barn has wonderful open views across fields to the sea. It is peacefully located at the end of a quiet lane with many scenic walks and cycle routes nearby. The sea at Dancing Ledge is within a 15-minute walk and the coastal path can be followed eastwards to Swanage and onwards to Studland. In a westerly direction the trail heads to Chapman's pool, Kimmeridge and Lulworth.

Stone Barn is largely open plan with a wide archway between the living and sleeping areas. It offers a cosy base for guests looking to explore the beautiful Purbeck countryside. The property has eco underfloor heating in the bedroom and living areas, an attractive painted wooden ceiling and exposed stone walls. Once inside, Stone Barn is all on one level. There is a king size double bed with drawer space and a small wardrobe, as well as an en-suite shower room with shower cubicle, basin and WC. The fitted kitchen area has a refrigerator with ice box, combination microwave, oven, electric hob, and slimline dishwasher. A comfortable sofa is provided, plus TV with Freesat and complimentary WiFi. The dining table is positioned by the French doors with views across the garden and fields, out to sea. Central heating and electricity is without extra charge.

Please be aware that there are three fairly steep stone steps to the front door. The cottage has a delightful enclosed south facing garden laid to lawn with mature plants and trees dotting the perimeter. An outdoor table and chairs, plus loungers and a BBQ are provided so that guests can relax and have meals in the sunshine whilst enjoying the wonderful open views towards the sea. The garden has an abundance of bird life and wild life with tawny owls, badgers, rabbits and pheasants being frequent visitors. One car can be parked just outside the cottage. The renowned Square & Compass public house is within a five-minute walk, as is the charming village pond and a pretty tea shop and restaurant.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

I loved the stone barn and garden. The view was fabulous and the bonus was spotting two tawny owls in the tree at dusk. The location was ideal for local walks and visiting studland beach, the Arne reserve, swanage.

We had a lovely stay at Stone Barn. Location was excellent! Close to plenty of beaches and walks. Mel and her husband were very nice. Friendly and discreet. Didn't notice they were around. The cottage has everything needed for a short stay. We were a little surprised at just how small it was but soon settled in. TV and sofa too small however there Read moreis limited room. I felt at home almost immediately, the cottage is very welcoming. It has and has a beautiful view an is superbly located for lots of walks. Really comfortable and the enclosed garden was perfect for my dog. If I had any questions Mel and Rob were really welcoming, helpful and friendly. I will definitely be back. Hide

Great little retreat in the most amazing setting! Absolutely spotless and a really comfortable bed - slept well. Well appointed and warm (we were there in November when the weather was 'cold'). Safe for the dog with an enclosed back garden. Only comment was the TV - not the best (a bit small and mounted too high up for comfortable viewing). Still aRead more great cottage - enjoy. Hide

The barn is small, with cooking eating and sleeping in one room. Excluding the fridge, very little food storage space and only a small freezer section. We took fishing tackle and cameras, and the space became cluttered with no place to put empty suitcases. If one is eating out and only using it as a base then the accommodation is fine. There is no Read moreissue with the property or equipment, furnishings which are first class, and Mel and Rob are great, but it is feels overpriced for what is provided. Hide

This is a beautiful little cottage in one of the most beautiful parts of England. We could not fault it. If you love walking then this place is ideal. As well easy access to one of the best pubs in England the Square and Compass is an added bonus. Highly recommend.
