Nestled in the grounds of a large house on the outskirts of Worth Matravers, this charming cottage offers a peaceful hideaway in the stunning Dorset countryside.

This lovely stone cottage is full of character. In centuries past it was a small stone sanctuary with spring water for priests making the journey from St Aldhelm's Head to Swanage along the Priests Way. It now stands in the grounds of a lovely large Purbeck stone house on the edge of Worth Matravers. Stone Barn has wonderful open views across fields to the sea. It is peacefully located at the end of a quiet lane with many scenic walks and cycle routes nearby. The sea at Dancing Ledge is within a 15-minute walk and the coastal path can be followed eastwards to Swanage and onwards to Studland. In a westerly direction the trail heads to Chapman's pool, Kimmeridge and Lulworth.

Stone Barn is largely open plan with a wide archway between the living and sleeping areas. It offers a cosy base for guests looking to explore the beautiful Purbeck countryside. The property has eco underfloor heating in the bedroom and living areas, an attractive painted wooden ceiling and exposed stone walls. Once inside, Stone Barn is all on one level. There is a king size double bed with drawer space and a small wardrobe, as well as an en-suite shower room with shower cubicle, basin and WC. The fitted kitchen area has a refrigerator with ice box, combination microwave, oven, electric hob, and slimline dishwasher. A comfortable sofa is provided, plus TV with Freesat and complimentary WiFi. The dining table is positioned by the French doors with views across the garden and fields, out to sea. Central heating and electricity is without extra charge.

Please be aware that there are three fairly steep stone steps to the front door. The cottage has a delightful enclosed south facing garden laid to lawn with mature plants and trees dotting the perimeter. An outdoor table and chairs, plus loungers and a BBQ are provided so that guests can relax and have meals in the sunshine whilst enjoying the wonderful open views towards the sea. The garden has an abundance of bird life and wild life with tawny owls, badgers, rabbits and pheasants being frequent visitors. One car can be parked just outside the cottage. The renowned Square & Compass public house is within a five-minute walk, as is the charming village pond and a pretty tea shop and restaurant.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Beautiful cottage and fab garden in a stunning location. Wildlife and livestock abound. Hardly got in the car all week - beauty in all directions on foot (Swanage, St Aldhelms, Kingston, Kimmeridge). Square & Compass is a jewel.

Superb little holiday hideaway. Compact but marvellously laid out little cottage. Lovely large windows look out onto big enclosed garden area and lovely sea-view. Birdlife and wildlife make relaxing entertainment. Just as the birds, rabbits, squirrels etc retire for the evening the owls and bats come out to continue the show. Short walk into lovelyRead more village with interesting pub and charming tea-rooms. Also an array of great short (or long) walks right from the cottage or village. Loved it all. Hide

Excellent location for peace, quiet and total privacy. Owner made himself known on first day and then left me totally in peace. VERY comfy bed... some mornings it was quite hard to get up!

We stayed with our German Shepherd for 5 nights in Stone Barn, a lovely property which is well-equipped and very comfortable with a lovely private fully-enclosed garden and wonderful countryside and sea views. The location was awesome for the costal path and the Priests Way. Parking was very tight and we had a van which was awkward. The cottage was very small and more than a few days would probably be a struggle. The pub - Square and Compass - was excellent with real ales and ciders and only a 5 minute walk away.

Fabulous location lots of walks along the coastal path and into Swanage. Saw deer and a stag on our early morning walk and was lucky to have blue sky 4 days of our week holiday . Lovely for star gazing too. The Square and Compass provided a roaring fire and good beer on rainy days. Very comfortable cosy accommodation.
