This charming thatched cottage is located on the coast, close to the centre of Brighstone, and has been decorated with fresh colours following a classic, nautical theme.

This pretty thatched cottage is attractively situated in the grounds of Gillmans House, a listed property close to the centre of Brighstone - a village with many thatched cottages, an ancient church, general stores, a public house, newsagents and hairdressers. The village is surrounded by picture-postcard West Wight countryside and is less than a mile from the beach and National Trust coastline. Behind the village are the Brighstone Downs. Footpaths can be followed from here to the renowned Tennyson Downs and The Needles. The spectacular coastal views from these downs are breath-taking. Paths in the opposite direction lead to the medieval castle of Carisbrooke and the market town of Newport, close to the centre of the Island.

Stable Cottage has been converted from a barn that dates back to the 17th Century. It is a Grade II listed building that is built of stone and wood. The cottage has been furnished and equipped in a traditional style to a high standard. It provides comfortable and attractive accommodation for two people. There is a large double bedroom with a king-size bed, flat screen television/Freeview/DVD and an en-suite bathroom with bath, hand shower, basin and WC; an open plan sitting room with a sofa, television with Freesat and DVD, plus radio and iPod dock; a pleasant dining area and a fitted kitchen with an electric hob with two hot plates, a combination microwave with convection oven/grill, refrigerator and freezer (washing machine and tumble drying service available). Oil filled radiators keep the cottage warm in colder weather and all heating and electricity are provided free of charge. (Please be aware that there are two steps between the bedroom door and the sitting room. WiFi internet connection available.

Stable Cottage has its own secluded garden where visitors can relax in the sunshine. Garden furniture and a parasol are provided. A car can be parked alongside the cottage. A rural bus service and village shops are within three minutes walk. We regret that it is not possible to have a barbecue, candles or naked flames in the vicinity of the cottage because of the thatched roof. The secluded sandy bays of Brighstone Brook and Compton are within a short drive of the cottage. The small towns of Freshwater and Yarmouth are also nearby and they offer a choice of restaurants and shops. Mottistone Manor House, a National Trust property is only a mile from Brighstone, and Queen Victoria's Island home - Osborne House is within a 30-minute drive.

  • 1 ground floor king-size bedroom
  • 1 bathroom with bath with handheld shower and a WC
  • Electric fan oven with hob and grill, fridge with ice compartment and microwave
  • Washing machine and tumble dryer available at owner's home by arrangement
  • Central heating and electric included
  • Bed linen included
  • Off-road parking for 1 car

A very pretty, comfy cottage set in a peaceful location. We enjoyed it very much and would not hesitate to recommend it.

Your description was perfectly adequate; I think its the personal, caring touches by the owners that made this cottage 'out of the ordinary'. Brighstone though; an odd little(well, not so little) village on an island dependant on tourism; no cafe, + a very poor pub; I'm sure theres a market for these 'essentials' to holidaymakers+locals alike.

Outstanding cottage, there was an unbelievable welcome pack. There was nothing that I was looking for that I couldn't find-hope that makes sense! We have booked to come again next year for the fourth year running which says it all!
