Spring Cottage stands in an idyllic location, within a two-minute walk of the beach in the pretty seaside village of Bonchurch, on the south east coast of the Island. The cottage enjoys spectacular sea views from most rooms, and from the enchanting garden. Bonchurch is a peaceful village with a public house, great restaurant and an ancient church, plus a pretty pond which is home to carp, ducks and a variety of birds. The beach at Bonchurch is of sand and shingle with areas of rock pools which are ideal for finding small fish and crabs. Visitors can also enjoy a pleasant walk by the sea into the nearby seaside town of Ventnor with its sheltered sandy beach. This attractive coastal path also heads Eastwards from the cottage to the golden beaches of Sandown and Shanklin which are alternatively just a ten-minute car ride away.
Spring Cottage has been carefully extended and renovated from the original stone built stables of Winterbourne House to provide a spacious and attractive property. Charles Dickens wrote David Copperfield whilst staying at Winterbourne House. He was attracted by the tranquil location and mild climate of the area. The cottage has been furnished and equipped with care to provide attractive accommodation for eight people which is centrally heated. On the ground floor there is a spacious sitting room with comfortable sofas and chairs, an open fire, HD television, Freesat and DVD player. French doors open from here onto a patio with garden furniture so that meals can be eaten in the sunshine whilst enjoying the splendid sea views. There is a separate dining room with a further set of patio doors opening on to the patio. The kitchen is well-equipped with fitted units, an electric oven plus warming drawer, a gas hob with a special wok facility, microwave, dishwasher, large refrigerator and separate freezer. A washing machine/tumble dryer are provided in a separate garden room. Also on the ground floor there is a small conservatory.
The cottage has four well-appointed bedrooms which all have sea views and en- suite bath/shower rooms, or immediate access to a private shower room. On the ground floor there is a twin bedroom with an en-suite shower room with a built in shower, basin and WC. This shower room can be accessed via two doors and can be made available for more general use if required. Upstairs, there are three additional bedrooms - the master bedroom has a king-size bed and is a split level room with a floor to ceiling window and a beautifully tiled bathroom with a slipper bath, hand shower, basin and WC. There is a second double bedroom with an en- suite shower room, basin and W.C. The third upstairs bedroom is a twin room with patio doors opening on to a large balcony which in summer is made particularly idyllic with blooms of a trailing clematis and passionflower vines. Immediately adjacent to this room is a spacious shower room with a built in double seated shower, basin and W.C.
All heating and electricity is provided at no extra charge. WiFi is available plus a telephone for incoming and outgoing local calls. A highchair and wooden cot are available, along with books and a variety of board games. The cottage has a large secluded acre of garden with extensive lawns, trees and shrubberies, a long pergola covered with plants and a small spring. The setting of this cottage is one of its most splendid aspects. Visitors can relax in the sunshine with views of the English Channel and watch the boats. There is parking space for two cars in the drive and a bus service within ten minutes walk. Restaurants and a public house are within five minutes walk. For Christmas, there are decorations and a Christmas tree provided.
