This quaint cottage lies just a few steps from the pretty centre of Shanklin Old Village, just a short walk down to the sandy beach. Perfect for families looking for a coastal retreat.

Rubstone Cottage stands on a quiet pathway, only a few steps from the pretty centre of Shanklin Old Village with its charming thatched cottages, small shops and public houses. The sandy beach of the seaside resort of Shanklin is only a five-minute walk away. Here, the sand gently slopes into the water and paddling, swimming and boating can be enjoyed. On the sea front are a variety of places to eat with spectacular sea views and traditional entertainments including amusements and crazy golf. Shanklin Chine provides an attractive route from the old village to the beach. The main centre of Shanklin provides shops, a supermarket, tea shops and restaurants. It also has good public transport links with direct access via the train to Ryde onwards to the mainland. Shanklin also benefits from a good bus service to various parts of the Isle of Wight.

Rubstone is a traditional stone semi-detached cottage. It is one of only four or five properties on a small pathway with no vehicle access. The cottage has been furnished and equipped with care to provide an attractive and comfortable place to stay which is centrally heated and double glazed. On the ground floor there is a sitting room with a sofa, arms chairs, flat screen television with Freeview and DVD player; a separate dining area with a window overlooking the courtyard; a compact kitchen equipped with an electric cooker and gas hob, microwave and refrigerator. In a separate outbuilding there is a washing machine, tumble dryer and freezer.

Fairly steep stairs lead up to two charming bedrooms - one double and one twin room, plus a bathroom with bath, overhead shower, basin and W.C. A stair gate is available and arrangements can also be made for a travel cot and high chair to be provided on request. Wifi internet, central heating and electricity are without any additional charge. The cottage has a small courtyard style garden which is laid to gravel, walled and gated with garden furniture so that meals can be enjoyed outside. A complimentary car parking permit is provided by reimbursement for one car for the period of visitors stay - car park within a two-minute walk. This car parking ticket enables visitors to also park in other council car parks throughout the Isle of Wight including Shanklin Esplanade.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Please note there is a refundable £100 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

The position in Shanklin was just perfect, especially for the Shanklin Chine right on the doorstep. Staff in the pubs and shops were very friendly and welcoming. Everywhere was beautiful. The only problem was acquiring a visitors permit in Vernon Meadow car park without an IPhone; it took quite a few phone calls! But achieved it eventually!

This cottage is a little cosy in places (i.e. main bedroom and bathroom). However, it is in a truly fantastic location and the large dinning space is brilliant for a family.

A nice location in the heart of Shanklin, near to the wonderful beach and with several shops and Cafs and restaurants in the neighboorhood.

It's worth knowing that it isn't possible to park near the cottage to unload, so guests need to unload from the car park up the hill and across the (narrow and pretty busy) road. That's because the cottage itself is pleasantly tucked away up a small alleyway, so is very quiet to the extent that you wouldn't really know you were near the road. AsidRead moree from that, we enjoyed our time there. Very handy for the local shops, pubs and restaurants, and for those in the main town. Good bus links too. Hide
