This historic waterfront cottage is in the centre of Newport with excellent cycle links and the quayside nearby, it’s the perfect base for anyone looking to explore the island.

This historic waterfront cottage dates back to 1776 and was one the first noted dwellings beside the River Medina. It stands between the historically important Odessa Boatyard and modern day chandlers. In bygone days, the harbour was busy with the comings and goings of coasters and cargo boats, although today it is only used by pleasure craft and narrowboats. The quayside still has working boatyards, chandlers, marine and business units. The central location of Riverside Cottage makes it an ideal base for exploring the Isle of Wight by car or bus. It is also in a wonderful location for cyclists as a nearby cycle path follows the course of the River towards Cowes and interlinks with a network of routes to such places as Godshill, Sandown and Shanklin. Many amenities are on the doorstep with public houses, a range of restaurants, wine bars, a cinema, arts centre and gallery all within a five minutes walk.

Riverside Cottage has been in the same family for at least two generations. It is an attractive detached property, furnished and equipped with care with river views from many of the rooms. On the ground floor there is: a fitted kitchen equipped with an electric cooker and hob, microwave, refrigerator, small freezer, washing machine and radio; a cloakroom with W.C; a lovely dining room with an oak table and chairs, television with Freeview and DVD player, and wood burning stove; a spacious sitting room with sofas, armchairs, plus a second wood burning stove and large television with Freeview and DVD player.

Stairs lead up from the sitting room to two charming bedrooms - one double and one single bedroom, plus a spacious shower room with a built in shower, basin and W.C. A further flight of stairs leads up to an attractive attic style room with three full size single beds. The cottage is double glazed and heated with a combination of storage heaters, electric radiators and the two woodburning stoves. Two stairgates are available. Arrangements can be made for a travel cot and high chair to be provided. Electricity is without extra charge and Wifi internet is provided.

Riverside Cottage has a beautiful fenced garden which extends right to the river. It is fully fenced and gated. (The close proximity of the river does mean that children need to be closely supervised at all times). Garden furniture and a barbecue are provided so can meals can be enjoyed in the sunshine. Cycle store and parking for two cars in the drive. Bus service to most parts of the island within five minutes walk. A public house which is also good for meals and overlooks the river, 200 yards away. Nearby places to visit include Carisbrooke Castle and Osborne House, the Isle of Wight home of Queen Victoria. The closest beach is eight miles away.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

Absolutely fabulous central location, close to town centre. Quaint cottage which has lots of character. Would comfortably sleep family although stairs are narrow if there are access problems. Comfortable and clean, with parking for one car.

A very welcoming home from home cottage. Beautiful peaceful location, looking out over the river. Lovely to sit out in the garden in the evenings watching the boats and wildlife on the river. A lovely family friendly pub just up the road and the squirrel track that leads all the way to Cowes the opposite direction. A lovely peaceful cottage dating fron the 1700. It has been furnished to make it feel like a home rather than a holiday cottage. The only neighbour's are a boat yard and a few house boats and they didn't make any noise whatsoever. The garden is great for dogs big enough so they can run around. We will definitely be using this cottage again.

The Riverside Cottage is a good spot for exploring the IOW and when you want to be close to town. The surrounding of the cottage is rather industrial (boatyards) but you hardly notice this when around or in the cottage. The view on the river Medina from the back garden is nice. We were with a party of three. Had plenty of space. The top floor threeRead more bed bedroom is more suited for kids. As we visit the island regularly, we will surely consider staying her again. Lovely clean , well equipped and presented cottage. On an industrial site but very quiet and a good base to explore the Island. The local pub The Bargemans Rest, close to the Cottage had an extensive menu and a warm welcome.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the cottage is nestled in what is now an industrial estate but that does not take away any of it's charm or peacefulness. Very conveniently situated and such a bonus to have easy off street parking.
