Purbeck House is a beautiful Grade II listed stone property, dating back to the 1700s with a large garden and views of the rolling Purbeck hills. It stands close to the centre of the picturesque village of Corfe Castle - almost at the very heart of the Isle of Purbeck with its sandy beaches. The village square and the majestic ruins of the castle are within an eight-minute walk. The village has a variety of public houses, restaurants and tea shops, plus an exceptional bakery, a village shop with lots of local produce, gift shops and a National Trust shop. This is a wonderful walking area and visitors can stroll directly from the house to join extensive trails leading to the coastal villages of Studland and Lulworth. Pleasant walks also extend to the hilltop villages of Kingston and Worth Matravers. This is a spectacular area which is part of the Jurassic coast and the nearby coastal walks offer panoramic views with a wide range of marine and bird life. Dolphins and seals can often be seen off the coast at Durlston, and there are good facilities for bird watchers at Studland and also at Arne, which is protected by the RSPB.

The sandy beaches of Studland and Swanage are both within a 10/15 minute drive. Studland is an unspoilt area protected by the National Trust with four miles of beach. At Swanage you have all the traditional amusements of a seaside resort including Punch and Judy, crazy golf, pedalos and fishing, plus facilities for various boating activities and diving. A well preserved steam railway links Corfe Castle with Swanage and provides an enjoyable way of stepping back in time.

Purbeck House is a detached property which has recently been renovated to a high standard. Care has been taken to retain the traditional features of the property including ancient beams and an inglenook fireplace. The house was extended in the last century and now provides spacious, light and airy accommodation with views from many rooms over the garden to the downs. The house has been equipped and furnished with great sensitivity to provide attractive accommodation for eight people in four bedrooms, all four bedrooms can be found upstairs. At one end of the property is a family room with a king-size bed and a cot bed, the other being a king-size bedroom with garden views, this is a zip-and-link king-size bed, which can be made as a twin (2ft 6in beds) on request. These rooms have shared use of a shower room with WC. At the opposite end of the house are two bedrooms, one king-size bedroom with large en-suite and the other being a super king-sized zip and link bed which can be made up a twin on request (3ft beds), adjacent to a bathroom which has a shower over bath and a WC. Hand and bath towels are provided for all guests without charge at Purbeck House.

On the ground floor there is a large sitting room with four windows, comfortable sofas, a wide screen television with DVD player and Freeview. Visitors can relax here in front of an inglenook fireplace with a wood-burning stove which provides a very pleasant central focus for the room. A snooker table is also available for guests enjoyment. WiFi internet is available without extra charge. There is a separate dining room with a large table and chairs which comfortably seats eight, a dresser and feature fireplace. French doors open from here into a spacious conservatory overlooking the garden, with another table and chairs and comfortable seating. A further door opens from the conservatory directly into the garden. There is a fitted kitchen with windows overlooking the garden, equipped with wooden units, a range style gas hob and electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher and two under counter fridge freezers. The washing machine is housed in the adjoining utility room with a second sink, and the cloakroom with WC. A second staircase leads upstairs from here. Central heating and electricity at no extra charge. A travel cot and high chair can be provided.

The garden is a wonderful feature of Purbeck House as it is exceptionally large and is fully enclosed. Just to the rear of the house is a patio area which extends to a large lawn with shrubberies. It is a marvellous place for visitors to relax and for children to play games. It has an open feel with views to the downs in the distance. Garden furniture is provided. There is parking for one car in the garage and access via the back of the garage to an area in the back garden where a further two small cars can be parked. Parking for larger cars is available in a side road within a two-minute walk. A bus service is within a few minutes walk and steam train service to Swanage within an eight minutes walk. Nearby places to visit include the tank museum at Bovington, Monkey World, and various National Trust properties including Corfe Castle, the wonderful house of Kingston Lacey, and the homes of Lawrence of Arabia and Thomas Hardy.

  • 4 bedrooms – 1 family with king-size bed and cot bed, 1 king-sized zip and link (which can be made up as twin 2ft 6in beds on request), 1 king-size bedroom and 1 super king-size (which can be made up as a twin 3ft beds on request)

Characterful cottage surrounded by beautiful countryside and close to the sea, what more could you want? We had a great family holiday and really enjoyed everything especially the snooker table which was used every day. Considering how awful the weather has been we were quite lucky with the weather. Such a lovely, spacious cottage. We've stayed 4 times we love it so much. The garden is huge, enclosed (dog-proof) with lots of garden furniture. I always bring a few kitchen bits but never need them as the house is so well equipped. Great to have two en-suites and a main bathroom (as well as a downstairs wc). We hope to return for a 5th stay.
