This historic cottage offers bright and spacious accommodation in a picturesque village location.
This 17th century stone cottage is situated in the centre of the picturesque village of Corfe Castle ,amongst the beautiful countryside of the Isle of Purbeck. The famous castle which was attacked by Oliver Cromwell stands majestically on a small hill within a two-minute walk of the cottage and is the focal point of the village. Below the castle there is a pretty square with an exceptional bakers, a sweet shop, two public houses and a National Trust tea shop serving delicious cream teas. The beaches of the sandy peninsular of Studland are within a ten-minute drive, as are the more lively entertainment of the beach resort of Swanage. This is in a marvellous walking area with panoramic coastal views from the downs. Visitors can stroll directly from the cottage to the downs and follow paths to the coast at Swanage and Studland, or towards the pretty coastal villages of Kimmeridge and Lulworth.
Penny Cottage is a traditional Dorset cottage with a thatched roof, exposed Purbeck stone walls, exposed beams and an inglenook fireplace. It is one of a small terrace of stone cottages and has been furnished and equipped with great care. It is centrally heated and partially double glazed. The cottage has been skilfully extended to provide a spacious, light and airy open-plan kitchen equipped with fitted units, an electric cooker and gas hob, an integral microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and fridge freezer. There is a pleasant dining area with large windows and a French door which opens into the garden at the rear of the cottage. The sitting room is a charming room with comfortable sofas and a beautiful inglenook fire place. There is also a television with Freeview and a DVD player. On the ground floor there is also a modern bathroom with a bath, overhead shower, WC and basin.
Stairs lead up from the hallway to a pretty double bedroom. This room is furnished in a traditional style with a king-size bed, attractive beams and with views of the Purbeck hills. There is also a bunk bedroom for children. (Height above the upper bunk is restricted to two feet), plus a cloakroom with WC and basin. Heating and electricity are included without extra charge. WiFi internet connection available.
The cottage has a pretty enclosed garden at the rear with garden furniture. The patio is a real sun trap. (We regret it is not possible to have a barbecue or open fire in the garden due to the fire risk with the thatched roof). Within a two-minute walk there is a regular bus service to Swanage, Wareham and Poole with links to a train service to London and Weymouth. Visitors may also enjoy taking the steam train from Corfe Castle to Swanage. A special permit is available for free parking in the village car park which is within a five-minute walk. General stores, bakers, post office, telephone, public house and two good restaurants are within a three-minute walk.
Please note there is a refundable £100 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.
