This charming Swiss style cottage is situated in the beautiful gardens of Ventnor Park. These gardens have sheltered lawns, well kept paths and an excellent 18-hole putting green. Nearby footpaths lead up to high ground from where there are beautiful sea views. The sandy beach of Ventnor can be reached by taking a pleasant five-minute stroll through the gardens and down to the esplanade. Footpaths also lead directly from the cottage to the quiet cove of Steephill and the Botanical Gardens.
Park Lodge was built in 1881 in the grounds of Steephill Castle. It is constructed of Island stone and attractively carved wood. It has been renovated to a high standard and care has been taken to retain many of the original features of the cottage, with accommodation for six people. On the ground floor there is a large open plan kitchen equipped with an electric cooker and hob, microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator. A freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer are also provided. There is a spacious dining area with French doors opening onto a small veranda. The ground floor has two twin bedrooms and a modern bathroom with a bath overhead, shower, basin and W.C.
Stairs lead up to a spacious sitting room with leaded windows which enjoy open views across the gardens. This room is furnished with a sofa and chairs, and a television with DVD and video players. A door opens from here onto the balcony. Also upstairs, is a large double bedroom with king-size bed and a shower room with a built in shower, W.C and basin. Central heating and electricity is free of charge. A wooden cot and high chair are available.
Park Lodge has a private courtyard at the front of the cottage with garden furniture and a stream. Particular care is required with children. Visitors have access to the extensive surrounding gardens of Ventnor Park. Cars can be parked in the road opposite the cottage. There are a variety of shops restaurants and a public house within ten minutes walk. Public transport is within a three minutes walk.
